September 11th will forever be one of the darkest days in American history.
We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost. We remember the first responders who ran toward danger while others ran from it. We remember the families whose ordinary goodbyes that morning became their last.
But I hope we remember something else, too.
In the days that followed, we weren’t Republicans or Democrats. We weren’t divided by race, religion, politics, or class.
We were Americans.
Strangers helped strangers. Flags flew everywhere. Communities came together. We mourned people we had never met because their loss felt like our loss.
For a brief moment, we remembered that there is far more that unites us than divides us.
It’s heartbreaking that it took such unimaginable tragedy to remind us of that.
Twenty-five years later, I pray we can find our way back to one another without another tragedy forcing us there.
Put our differences aside. Remember who we are, what we stand for, and what this country is capable of when we stand together.
God bless those we lost, their families, our first responders, and these United States of America. 🇺🇸
