🌎 National Public Works Week • May 17 to 23 🌎
This week is National Public Works Week, a time to recognize the people who design, operate, and maintain the systems that support daily life in our communities.

From clean drinking water and reliable wastewater service to safe streets, stormwater systems, parks, and public facilities, public works professionals play a vital role in protecting public health and supporting quality of life.

Many of these services are out of sight and out of mind until something goes wrong. National Public Works Week is a chance to say a simple but important thank you to the individuals and teams who plan ahead, respond to emergencies, and keep everything running behind the scenes.

Please join us in recognizing public works professionals everywhere this week.

Ever wonder what the EMD crew in the yellow utility vests is doing in your neighborhood? 🚧

Our Collections and Distribution Department works behind the scenes to keep Evergreen’s water and sewer infrastructure running smoothly. You’ll often see crews throughout the community, in easements, or backyards performing routine inspections, cleanings, and preventative maintenance to help avoid service issues before they start.

Mountain infrastructure comes with unique challenges, so proactive maintenance is essential. Our crews use specialized equipment and technical expertise to keep the system operating safely and reliably year-round.

We take pride in helping protect the community we all call home. Next time you see our trucks or crew members out working, feel free to give us a wave! 🛠️🚜

Good Morning EMD customers! As you may have noticed around town, the message boards have been changed to show that we have entered Drought Level 2. Bear Creek flow is currently at 20% of the historical average.

In Drought Level 2, mandatory water conservation goes into effect. We are requiring a 30% reduction in your water use compared to May of last year. How can you do this you ask? Please continue to wait to turn on your irrigation and hand water trees and shrubs, there is still frost in the forecast. Hold off planting new vegetation until the fall. Be conscious of your indoor water use; turn off the water when not necessary, take showers rather than baths, fix leaky toilets and other water fixtures, etc.

We thank you for being conscious of your water use and helping us to ensure that we are able to supply essential water to the Evergreen community.

🚽💧 Let’s Talk About What Actually Belongs Down the Drain…
We’re still finding things in the sewer system that definitely don’t belong there—like “flushable” wipes, dental floss, and paper towels. (Spoiler alert: they’re NOT sewer-friendly 😬)

Here’s the rule to remember: 👉
Only the 3 P’s should be flushed:
💩 P*e
💩 P**p
🧻 Toilet Paper
That’s it. Seriously.

🚫 Not flushable (even if the package says so): “Flushable” wipes, Paper towels, Dental floss, Feminine hygiene products, Grease, or food scraps. These items don’t break down like toilet paper—they clog pipes, damage pumps, and can lead to messy (and expensive) sewer backups.

💡 Help protect your home AND our system: Throw it in the trash, not the toilet. Your pipes (and our crews) will thank you 🙌

Happy Earth Day! 🌎💚
Did you know Earth Day began 56 years ago today? Today is great reminder of the importance of protecting the place we all call home.

At Evergreen Metropolitan District, we’re proud to support our community and environment through ongoing efforts in water and energy conservation, as well as reducing pollution in our local streams. We are committed to keeping nutrient levels from our wastewater treatment process as low as possible to help protect wildlife and preserve water quality. This year, we’re excited to highlight a major initiative: our Biosolids Dewatering Project. By reducing the need to transport liquid wastewater sludge, this project helps cut down on greenhouse gas emissions and supports a more sustainable future. Stay tuned next week to learn more about how this project is making a difference!
