Now that most of the snow has melted around the Emmetsburg area, we are noticing a lot of Snow Mold issues in lawns. Snow mold develops when snow covers wet turfgrass on unfrozen ground. This is usually a harmless turf disease but can be damaging in some circumstances. A light raking of the damaged area to help it breathe and some spring nutrition via a fertilizer application will help aid in recovery.

The invasive emerald ash borer has been detected for the first time in Cerro Gordo and Webster counties. This exotic pest that attacks and kills ash tree species has now been confirmed in 73 Iowa counties.

Coronavirus Emmetsburg-
Knowing that many students rely on school hot lunch program A&W will be offering discounted meals to all students K-12, Monday-Friday 10:30 am to 5 pm while schools are closed. This meal will consist of Chicken tenders or a Cheeseburger that comes with fries or apple sauce and a small drink for $2.99. As a community we will get through this.
