🐞 Not all “ladybugs” are created equal…

As we head into spring, you might start seeing these little red beetles again—but some are welcome, and some are not.

👉 Ladybugs (the good ones)

No “M” marking behind the head

Harmless and beneficial

Help control garden pests

Stay outdoors where they belong

👉 Asian Lady Beetles (the invaders)

Have a noticeable “M” shape behind the head

Can bite (more of a pinch)

Release a yellow fluid that smells and can stain

Tend to show up inside homes, especially after fall

A simple way to tell:If it has an “M” on its head, it’s the one that likes to move into your house.

These beetles often sneak in during the fall and then show up on warm days this time of year.

Take a look at the photo below to spot the difference 👇

Hey everyone! It’s that time of year again when those tiny little black-and-white bugs—yep, the MINUTE PIRATE BUGS- aka NO-SEE-UMS -start showing up from the fields. 🌾

These guys actually come out of crops and vegetation where they spend the summer munching on pests like aphids and thrips. So they’re actually beneficial little predators in the fields! Unfortunately, when the crops are harvested, these bugs kind of wander into our living spaces and sometimes give a little bite—not to drink blood, just a mistaken “hello” that can sting a bit.

There’s not much we can do in terms of pest control to keep them away, and they only hang around for a short while. Long clothing and LOTS of bug spray is about it! If you do get bitten, a little soothing lotion or topical ointment can help, but rest assured they’re just a temporary nuisance. Hang in there—they’ll be gone before you know it! If you have any questions feel free to comment below!

🌿 Fall Aggregating Insects 🍂

As temperatures start to drop, some insects begin to gather in large numbers around homes and buildings. These “aggregating” insects look for warm, protected spots to overwinter, and if given the chance, they’ll move inside.

Here are a few common culprits in our area:

🟢 Multicolored Asian Lady Beetles
These beetles are both helpful and a nuisance. In fall, they’re attracted to light-colored buildings and can enter homes through tiny cracks—sometimes by the thousands.

🟤 Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs (BMSB)
An invasive species that hitchhikes across the country on vehicles. Each fall they gather on homes and sneak inside to wait out the winter.

⚫ Cluster Flies
Often found in large numbers in attics and wall voids, cluster flies seek out warm spaces in homes and other buildings to spend the winter. They’re sluggish indoors but can be a big nuisance when active on warmer days.

🟡 Paper Wasps
As fall arrives, nests are abandoned. Mated females will look for overwintering sites—often inside attics, chimneys, or wall voids. During warm winter days, they may accidentally find their way indoors.

✨ Prevention is Key
Now is the perfect time for exterior treatments to stop these pests before they get inside. Special attention should be given to cracks and gaps around:
• Soffits & fascia
• Doors & windows
• Utility openings
• Porch posts & columns
• Garages, carports & patios

A detailed crack-and-crevice treatment is the best way to prevent a winter full of unwanted guests.
