š”ļø Heads Up, Flea & Tick Season is Heating Up in 2026! š”ļø
According to the National Pest Management Associationās Spring & Summer 2026 Bug Barometer, Virginia (along with the Mid-Atlantic) is in for an early and active pest season: āA mild start to the winter and drier spring will jumpstart pest season, with termites, brown marmorated stink bugs, and Asian lady beetles emerging ahead of schedule. As temperatures rise, expect more ticks and stinging insects.ā
The Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) 2026 forecasts confirm the concern for our area:
⢠Anaplasmosis risk remains elevated across much of Virginia.
⢠Ehrlichiosis continues to show high prevalence in the Southeast, including our state.
⢠Lyme disease is expanding beyond traditional hotspots, with increased risk noted in Virginia and surrounding regions.
These maps show exactly where the heightened activity is expected ā and Virginia is squarely in the red/orange zones for several tick-borne threats.
Fleas and ticks donāt just annoy your pets ā they can spread serious diseases to your family too. Warmer conditions mean longer activity periods, so now is the time to act.
