Bats are out and about in Northern Indiana! Have you seen bats flitting around your backyard hunting bugs at night? Have you ever wondered where they sleep in the day? Bats will use hollowed out tree trunks as a home, but they will just as often use attic spaces in homes as their bat cave. How can you tell if bats are using your attic as a home? Watch the sky around your house at dawn. All bats don't leave the roost at the same time, but just about all return home at the same time. If you've only got a few visitors, it may not be immediately clear that they are using your home, as they enter quickly and are easy to miss; if you have a larger colony, the returning bats are easy to spot. Also be on the lookout for guano (bat droppings) which will often appear as black dots high up on siding, but can also accumulate in piles on more horizontal surfaces.
