Short story time!! 8 years ago today I signed up our first Family Member of N.O.S POOL & SPA!! 12 years ago I started my journey of owning my own business. I was 29 living in Downtown Sacramento. After working 15 years in the restaurant business I slowly started transitioning out of Bartending, Waiting Tables, Cooking & Catering. While I started pursuing to own my own business. I knew I wanted to own a pool business but didnāt know how to start. I didnāt have a truck and didnāt know anything about the business. Two kinda important things. But I just knew it was the complete right fit for me and the life I wanted to build!! No place would hire me with no experience, except one place that was all the way in Elk Grove. Every Summer they would hire kids with no experience and train them to become new pool technicians for their busy season, if you lasted through summer and came out with knowledge and some know how you became a year round employee. So I applied in 2009 and got two interviews but did not get hired. Grrr š!!
Thatās didnāt stop me, I continued to work 4-5 jobs being a Personal Bartender for a small business I started for myself, Catering for Classic Catering Downtown Sacramento, Cooking up in Eldorado Hills and waiting tables and Bartending at a hole in the wall dive bar up in Cameron Park. 2010 they started hiring again so I applied and this time got the job. The owner even asked me why didnāt I hire you last year? I said I was shocked and sad you didnāt honestly. Devine Order I always Say!! For the next year I still worked all 3-4 jobs while learning the business. After only a few months working and learning the business I wanted to learn to get out on my own. I had to leave my cooking job in Eldorado Hills & my Bartending gig in Cameron Park because of my car breaking down!! I only had my bicycle for transportation which worked out perfectly living in Downtown Sac!! I was making enough to still afford my own Apartment downtown while I still Catered and ran My Bartending Side Business. Having no car sure Made it fun getting to Elk Grove every morning Monday-Friday by 7am. That didnāt stop me!! Fortunately I had a light rail train three blocks from my apartment and it got me only 10 miles from the pool job I had. I caught the light rail train at 6:11 am Monday- Friday every morning with my bicycle, I got dropped of in Meadow View which was roughly 10 miles from All Clear Pool & Spa. I road 20 miles a day 10 to get to work and 10 after work back to light rail for the next 7 months. Road over 100 miles a week. Would ride to the light rail station go to work when it was dark and road to the light rail station after work to come home in the dark rain or shine!! Worked 10 to 12 hour days because of all the learning and knowledge I had to gain. I figured I could go to school and pay to get taught by someone or I could get paid and teach myself. š My goal was to save enough money and build enough credit to get approved for a loan to get a motorcycle for my next transportation. And then build on that to earn and purchase a work truck.
I ended up reaching my goal and purchased a 2010 Ninja 250R in October of 2011. I took a motorcycle riding course to learn how to ride. And once I received my license I road my bicycle to the nearest dealer and got approved to purchase my first Motorcycle. I callled my super cool neighbor to help come pick up my bicycle so I could ride my rand New Motorcycle home!! I was Making Dreams come true!! I was on my way to making Route Manager at work so I could get a pay raise and make a salary so I could afford the truck payment I needed to get my business started. Then I broke my ankle hanging out with my future wife for her 30th birthday!! Lol š That didnāt stop me!! I continued to ride my motorcycle with my broken ankle. Thankful I wasnāt riding my bicycle anymore! š I worked as much as possible while trying to earn that manager position!!!
After only a year 2011, I became the Route Manager for all 10 Pool Technicians, all because of my determination, my ability to soak up knowledge and šÆ pure motivation to learn absolutely everything that I could about the business. For the next year I Grew even more with experience and knowledge that I felt completely confident in starting my own business already. I dropped a few jobs and was only doing pools, catering and some small bartending for my own side business. Riding my motorcycle to work rain or shine!! August 2012 I received the best letter I have ever received in my life. It was a prequalified letter saying that I was approved for an auto loan up to $22,000. This one was the real deal a real legit prequalified letter from my bank. I could not believe it. So I went shopping for the truck I knew I wanted. I found her and went to purchase her and it all went as smoothly as I couldāve dreamed.
From then I got to drive to work in my new Truck a Beautiful Chevy 05 Silverado 4x4 Longbed. Just in the nic of time right before winter. No more riding the Ninja in the rain. From 2012-2013 I started working for an independent pool guy I found doing side jobs for the company I worked for. Independent guys would hire All Clear Pool & Spa kids to do specialized work they didnāt do or didnāt want to do. So I showed up to do a vac to waste for a guy and he pretty much hired me on the spot. I started working for him on the weekends and after work Monday-Friday. Before I knew it I was putting in my two week notice and was going to work for him full time. 2012-2014 I worked as an independent contractor learning the business on a Independent Pool Business Owner level!! 3/3/2013 Todd got a call from someone where he did not want to take more pools, certain areas in town he was getting out of, which allowed me to make another dream come true and reach another life goal!! That literally opened the door!! I had no other option to step up and walk the talk!! I signed up Beth & Kevin Green for the very first Family Members of N.O.S POOL & SPA!!! That was the day Our Family Run Business was born!! N.O.S was Created. And Our Life Journey begins. 8 Years Strong šŖ!!!
And I couldnāt have done it without my wifeās complete confidence in me and always supporting all the dreams I dream!! I love you Melissa Marie Koffler more than youāll ever know. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being the strongest Stay at home Mother, Best Wife, Coolest Home school teacher and Honestly My best friend I could only dream of!!
