While we are all concerned with the best ways to disinfect and sanitize I thought we would share this information on alternatives to buying the off the shelf sanitizers.
Sanitizer/disinfectant for 2 cents/gallon.
There are 3 universal sanitizers recognized by every health department in the world:
- Alcohol, generally IPA (Isopropyl), but grain alcohol works too.
- Hydrogen peroxide.
- Sodium Hypochlorite, most commonly used as bleach.
Each has significant negative properties:
- IPA, while pH neutral, is volatile & is hard on skin.
- Hydrogen peroxide is also hard on skin and at high concentrations, is volatile.
- Bleach smells, is hard on skin, ruins colored fabrics, can cause respiratory issues, etc.
The South Korean scientist who invented the induction cooktop also invented a process that converts tap water into odorless pH-neutral sodium hypochlorite, in small production units using only tap water and pure salt. It’s a technically complex process and is internationally patent-protected.
Treated water/sodium hypochlorite sanitizes on contact, is safe for skin including prolonged hand washing, safe even to drink (not recommended), is used in food/meat packing plants, schools, healthcare, etc in the Pacific Rim.
The home unit is about the same size and shape as a tower PC and produces about 30 gallons/day.
The next-level unit is the same size, but is engineered for lite commercial use, at about 100 gal/day. Restaurants, clinics, hospital departments, school departments, etc.
The next level unit, the K-10, is about the size of a gasoline power washer, 1000 gallons/day.
These units scale up in capacity for entire meat/vegetable packing plants, entire hospitals etc. but currently, we have access to the 3 units I’ve described.
The home model retails at $2400
The lite commercial model retails at $3800
The K-10 retails at $10,000.
Seriously, in So Korea and Japan, schools have wash basin units where kids wash their hands in our treated water without soap when entering, exiting cafeterias & restrooms.
This is a unit set up in your home or business and produces an endless supply of sanitizer. It can be applied through traditional spray bottles or for larger applications via an electrostatic sprayer.
