Hello friends and bee lovers! 🐝

We apologize for our absence as of late, we have been MIA since Hurricane Harvey wreaked havoc on the Coastal Bend, including our bee farms, devastating many of our hives. 😢

Nevertheless, Spring is here again and that means swarm season and we captured our very first swarm of the year right at our own house. 😊

In this video Chris cuts off a limb with a swarm on it and puts them in a bee bucket so he can find the queen and get her in a clip so we can hive them up. 🐝

A colony we removed on Sunday. Pretty aggressive for about the first half hour of uncovering the colony, then they settled down. These were super easy bees to get set in the new hive. Nice looking queen secured in a clip and these bees are some shb wrangling fools! Another successful removal!

Removal from this afternoon in the Oak Ridge subdivision. Fairly nice bees. This colony was just about to start building comb farther up in the cavity toward the peak of the roof. We got to them just in time to keep removal and structure repair costs to a minimum. Another successful removal!

This was the colony we removed last night. These girls had been there quite a while. I found 1 emergency queen cell and 5 more super-cession queen cells. I put these bees in a Langstroth Top Bar hybrid hive system. There was enough brood comb to fill up 2 deeps! For the most part these were nice bees to work with. They are rather small compared to the bees we usually work with but very productive. There was a full 5 gallon bucket of capped honeycomb that would not fit in the hive with the brood, so it will get fed back to all the bees here at the ICU.
