A Little Business Update from Mountain Sage 🫶🏼

One of the greatest things about owning your own business is having the freedom to learn, grow, and recognize what is…and isn’t worth your time and energy anymore.

After a lot of consideration, we’ve decided that we will no longer be offering move-in or move-out cleanings to new clients. These services will now be reserved exclusively for our established clients.

The reality is that move-in and move-out cleanings are incredibly time consuming, physically demanding, and often don’t provide the return needed to justify the amount of time, labor, and resources involved.

As small business owners, we’re learning that growth isn’t always about offering more services or taking on more jobs. Sometimes, it’s about knowing when to step away from what no longer makes sense for your business.

Moving forward, we’re choosing to focus our time and energy on what we do best: caring for our recurring residential clients & businesses, and maintaining the Airbnb properties entrusted to us.

We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported Mountain Sage along the way. Every experience has taught us something, and we’re excited to continue building a business that’s not only successful, but sustainable for our family and our team. ❤️

Another episode of “Weird S**t People Do at Airbnbs”

Today’s episode: The Confetti Conundrum. 🍆

Tiny, glittery eggplants. EVERYWHERE. 😂

On the floors. Under the furniture. In places that have us questioning what kind of activities took place here. 💀

But here’s where it gets even better…

According to the host, the guest said they were planning a “quiet night in, playing games and doing puzzles.” 🤣

MA’AM. WHAT KIND OF PUZZLES WERE Y’ALL PUTTING TOGETHER?! 😭🍆

Apparently, we’ve been playing the wrong games at family game night. 💀

Whoever invented eggplant confetti, I just wanna talk. And whoever brought it to the Airbnb… we hope you catch your pinky toe on every single piece of furniture you walk past. Respectfully.

Just another day in the glamorous world of Airbnb housekeeping, where you never know what you’ll find, but you can almost guarantee you’ll be questioning humanity by checkout time.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

This month is one that holds a very special place in my heart. As a domestic violence survivor myself, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to find the courage to leave, start over, and rebuild a life after abuse. I also know just how much having a supportive community can mean during that process.

One of the wonderful local offices we clean, Spirit of Hope Counseling here in Edgewood, is hosting a community supply drive to benefit the Torrance County Domestic Violence Program, and Marcus and I would love to help support their efforts. 💜

They’re collecting everyday essentials for individuals and families who are working toward safety, independence, and a fresh start.

Some of the items needed include:

💜 Shampoo, conditioner, soap & deodorant
💜 Toothbrushes, toothpaste & hair care products
💜 Feminine hygiene products
💜 Diapers, wipes, formula & baby bottles
💜 New or gently used women’s and children’s clothing
💜 Notebooks, pens & other personal care essentials

To our East Mountains clients: We’d love to make donating as easy as possible! If you have any items you’d like to contribute, simply let us know, and we would be happy to pick them up during your regularly scheduled cleaning over the next couple of weeks and personally deliver them to Spirit of Hope. No extra trips or errands needed on your end!

Domestic violence is something that affects far more families than most people realize, and sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can make an enormous difference to someone trying to rebuild their life.

This cause is incredibly personal to me, and being in a position where we can use our little family business to give back to other survivors means more than I can put into words.

This past weekend, Marcus and his crew tackled the yards at all of the Airbnb’s.

This Nob Hill property was definitely one of the most satisfying before & afters. A little trimming, clearing, raking, and a whole lot of cleanup made such a difference!

Because when guests are coming to New Mexico for one of the biggest events of the year, we want the outside looking just as welcoming as the inside.

A little update on baby Atlas

Our sweet boy decided he was ready to meet us a little earlier than expected, which meant spending his first week of life in the NICU. It wasn’t quite the beginning we imagined, but we are so incredibly grateful to say that he is HOME, healthy, and gaining weight like an absolute champ.

These last few weeks have reminded us just how lucky we are…not only in our personal lives, but in this little business and community we’ve built.

To our clients, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your patience, flexibility, kind messages, and understanding while our family has adjusted to life with our newest little guy.

And to our amazing Mountain Sage team: THANK YOU. You stepped in, kept things moving, took care of the Airbnb’s for us, and gave us something we can never really repay…the ability to be present with our baby during a time when we needed it most. We appreciate you more than you know. ❤️

Sunny will be easing her way back into work soon, but for right now, her biggest priority is soaking up this precious time with Atlas and giving him all the love and attention he needs after his early arrival.

Marcus & I are completely over the moon to introduce Atlas Sawyer 🥹

Born August 30th at 8:06 AM, our sweet boy made his entrance into the world and immediately stole our hearts. We are soaking up all the newborn snuggles, tiny noises, and this incredibly special season as our family settles in with him.

Thank you so much to all of our amazing clients who have checked in on us, been patient with schedule changes, and supported our little family throughout this pregnancy journey. Owning a small family business means our clients often get to walk through these big life moments right alongside us, and we are incredibly grateful for the little community Mountain Sage has created.

For now, Mama is resting and soaking up baby snuggles while Dad is already completely wrapped around Atlas’s tiny finger.

Things we never thought we’d have to say as Airbnb cleaners… 🫠

Please. Do. Not. Put. Your. Dog. In. The. Hot. Tub. 😭

Yes, apparently this needs to be said.

Today’s episode of “Weird S**t People Do at Airbnbs” features a hot tub full of floating dog hair and the unmistakable aroma of ✨wet dog✨.

Besides being incredibly unsanitary (and an absolute nightmare for whoever has to clean it), hot tubs can actually be dangerous for dogs. Their bodies don’t regulate heat the same way ours do, and the chemicals in hot tub water aren’t exactly meant for Fido either.

We love dogs. We clean up after a LOT of dogs. We have absolutely nothing against dogs. But dogs do not go in hot tubs. 💔
