Let’s Talk Interior Oven Cleaning 🧽✨
Here is the step-by-step process we use to clean the inside of ovens — with the exception of self-cleaning ovens with the bright blue interior. 🙂
1. Remove the oven racks.
Take all racks out first. If they have heavy buildup, I’ll sometimes spray them with Zep Degreaser or Simple Green, place them inside a black garbage bag, and let them soak while I work on the oven.
2. Apply your degreaser or oven cleaner.
Depending on how dirty the oven is, use Simple Green or Zep Oven Cleaner. Coat the interior and close the oven door to allow the product to sit and break down the grease. I usually recommend letting it sit for about 20–30 minutes.
3. Start scrubbing.
Use a non-scratch sponge with Dawn dish soap and warm water to scrub away as much grease and buildup as possible.
Once you’ve removed everything you can with the sponge, either:
* Reapply your degreaser and let it sit again, or
* Carefully use a very wet pumice stone for stubborn, baked-on grease.
When using a pumice stone, keep both the stone and surface extremely wet, and re-wet with warm water as needed. This can make a huge difference on those seemingly impossible spots!
4. Wipe everything completely clean.
Once the oven looks clean, thoroughly wipe out all remaining product and residue.
Then spray the interior with a vinegar-and-water mixture and wipe it down one more time. Many degreasers can dry with a cloudy or hazy appearance, and this final wipe helps remove that residue.
5. Clean the racks.
Go back to your oven racks and wipe away the loosened grease and buildup. For anything stubborn that remains, carefully use the wet pumice stone.
6. Put everything back together.
Once the oven and racks are completely clean, put the racks back in.
✨ And you’re finished!
