We rebuilt the parking lot for fiber optics in Pomfret. This is the perfect example for why you need to make sure the base gravel is suitable to pave over. The existing material was a combination of saturated clay and loam with a few inches of gravel on top. The moment we put a truck on it it sunk out of sight. (Slide 2)

If you notice there is a crack in the same spot in every layer of asphalt. This is why I never recommend “overlaying” existing asphalt. If you overlay your driveway all the same cracks will come back within 5 years.

The entrance to Jolley precast got a facelift today. Two courses of class 1 asphalt at 2” for a heavy duty 4” finish will handle the daily heavy traffic nicely.
