EMERGENCY RESPONSE 01/31/2022
At about 5pm last evening on 01/31/22, we noticed the apartments located over the building at 170 Flanders Rd (Mid-Way Plaza) were ablaze. Within 5 minutes of a 911 call, we heard sirens and emergency vehicles were on site! And they kept coming … for hours. Everyone worked together with such comradery and togetherness that the fire was contained in a short amount of time. Due to the efforts, diligence and amazingly quick actions of all of our responders and volunteers, there were no injuries and damage was minimized. As terrible as this event was, it could have been so much worse.
We are so very grateful to live in an area with exceptional emergency responders. At a time where, COVID has stretched not only our patience thin but our resources as well, those associated with our emergency preparedness in our town of Niantic should be commended for a job not only well done, but done with efficiency and caring. A great big THANK YOU to all involved, including responders from neighboring towns as far out as Mystic.
