Not aggressive — but definitely alarming. 😳

Cicada killers may look intimidating, but these giant wasps are more interested in digging burrows in your yard than bothering people.

Think you’re seeing just “big black ants”? You might actually be dealing with Carpenter Ants—one of the most common wood-damaging pests around homes.

🐜 What they look like:
Large ants (often 1/4” to 1/2” long)
Usually black, but can also be reddish or a mix of both
Smooth, rounded upper back (no “spines” like some other ants)
Elbowed antennae and a narrow waist like other ants

🪵 Did You Know?
Carpenter ants don’t eat wood—they excavate it. They tunnel through damp or damaged wood to build nests inside walls, decks, and windowsills.

🚨 Signs you might have an issue:

🐜 Small piles of sawdust-like material (frass)

🐜 Rustling sounds inside walls (especially at night)

🐜 Winged ants indoors, often near windows

🐜 Hollow-sounding wood when tapped

🐜 Increased activity around moist areas (bathrooms, kitchens, basements)

A few ants can be a warning sign of a much larger hidden colony.

📞 Don’t wait until the damage spreads—call today! 1.833.795.2714

🐝 Carpenter bees aren’t aggressive… but they are destructive to wood.

These bees are actually pretty harmless to people:

✔️ Males don’t have stingers
✔️ Females rarely sting unless directly handled
✔️ They’re not living in colonies like other stinging insects

But when it comes to your home… they do have one habit worth watching.
🪵 They drill smooth, perfectly round holes into untreated wood
🪵 Then tunnel inside to create nesting galleries
🪵 Over time, that can weaken decks, trim, siding, and fascia boards

What starts as a single small hole can turn into long-term wood damage if left untreated.

You don’t feel it… but it’s already attached 👀

🕷️ Did You Know?

Ticks in Connecticut and nearby areas can transmit Lyme disease in as little as 24–36 hours after attaching.

And here’s the part most people miss:

• Tick bites are often painless
• They hide in warm areas (behind knees, scalp, underarms)
• You can pick them up from your own backyard—not just the woods

⚠️ Signs to watch for:

• Bullseye rash
• Fatigue or flu-like symptoms
• Joint pain

By the time you notice… it could already be a problem.

Think your yard might be attracting ticks? Don’t wait— give us a call today! 1.833.795.2714 📞🏡

Spring Is Here… And So Are the Pests 🐜🐭
The first day of spring isn’t just a fresh start for us—it’s the beginning of peak pest activity.
As temperatures rise, pests that stayed hidden all winter are now on the move, actively foraging for:
✔️ Food
✔️ Water
✔️ Shelter
That means your home or business can quickly become a target.
🐜 Ants begin scouting kitchens and pantries
🐭 Rodents expand their search for food sources
🪳 Overwintering pests start reappearing indoors
🐝 Stinging insects begin nesting nearby
👉 Early spring is when infestations START—not when you notice them.
The best defense is preventative pest control.
Stop the problem before it grows.
At KEA Pest Control, we use science-based, eco-friendly solutions to protect your property and your health.
