Why I don’t charge hourly (and what I do instead)

When I first started cleaning, I thought charging hourly made sense. But over time, I realized it actually holds you back.

When you charge hourly, the faster you get, the less you make. Your experience doesn’t really get valued, and it can feel like you’re always working against the clock.

That’s why I price by the job instead.

One of the easiest ways to do that is using square footage as a starting point.

Instead of charging for time, you’re charging based on the size of the home and the level of work it needs.

For example, if a home is 2,000 sq ft and your rate averages around $0.20 per sq ft, that would put the job around $400. From there, you adjust based on condition, buildup, and any extras like ovens, fridges, or cabinets.

But here’s the important part a lot of people don’t realize…

No two homes are the same.

A 1,000 sq ft home can take just as much work as a 2,000 sq ft home depending on how it’s been maintained. That’s why your square footage price isn’t set in stone. You raise or lower your rate per square foot based on the condition of the home.

So you’re still pricing by the job… square footage just helps you get there.

And if a client doesn’t want certain areas cleaned, you have options.

You can either adjust based on approximate square footage, or you can price by the job and break it down by space, like assigning value to kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and add-ons.

At the end of the day, you’re not selling time. You’re selling the result.

Two cleaners can clean the same house and take completely different amounts of time, and that doesn’t mean one should get paid less.

Square footage is just your starting point. The final price always comes down to the work involved.

I am taking limited bookings for low rates. **Does not include vacancy cleanings.**

Give me a price you feel like you can afford and we will work out what we can cover to come clean your home!

I am not sure yet how many I'll take a month. Kind of winging it and seeing how it fits people's needs.

*It may not cover your entire house in one visit but we will work with low rates to accomplish your goal over time.

- an area of your house that is neglected

- behind on a chore you need getting caught up on.

-healing from being sick and have no energy to boost your home back to what it was

-a loss in the family and you need cleaning HELP to get your mental state back up

-kids hit a growth spurt and you have no will to go through all their unfolded laundry and pick out sizes that don't fit so you can replace with new stuff.

-you just have a day where you do not feel like cleaning!

-being gone from traveling because it's winter sports season

-family is coming and you need a space in your home quickly turned over before guests arrive.

In the past I have charged a $100 automatic fee for custom cleans with your selection of items. Now offering no fee, and charging only the price of the add on item! So, this means if you want the inside of your oven cleaned, it will only be $50. Not $100 fee plus the $50. Want only 1 bathroom = $30 and so on. Any questions, please ask!
**MUST SPEND A MINIMUM OF $25 AND THIS CAN ONLY BE PAID IN CASH OR CHECK. (no card payments because the fees will take most of the cost, thanks for understanding)

New update! As you current clients know, I started using a new software for invoicing. While it originally worked great to have more orginization, I am not feeling it best suites my current business needs anymore. I am looking into a new software that is more tailored to the business needs. I was going to wait until the new year to roll into it, but it may be sooner than that. I will keep everyone posted.
