School is back and the laundry did not get the memo. If anything it doubled.

Four loads at home is one load at WaveMAX. Once you have done it that way, going back is hard.

A home washer holds a fraction of what our machines do, which is why laundry at home turns into an all-day project. Here the school clothes, the towels, the sheets and the sports gear go in together, wash together and dry together. Start to finish, about an hour.

Size is only half of it. More water per pound means detergent has room to work and the load actually rinses, instead of leaving residue behind that turns into a smell a week later. On this coast that matters more than most places, because humidity will find any residue you leave in a fiber.

Funny Friday: It is Friday afternoon and somebody in your house needs a clean jersey in twenty minutes.

You know how this goes. The home washer holds about a third of what needs washing, so you are three cycles deep, the dryer is still on load one, and the game has started without you.

This is what commercial machines are for. Ours take a full team bag in one load, wash it with enough water to actually rinse, and our dryers finish at real heat instead of handing you something faintly damp.

Run the whole week while you are there. Uniforms, practice gear, towels, and whatever came off the field. It all fits, and it comes out dry.

Wash Wednesday tip: Fall sports are underway, which means grass stains. They come out. Most people ruin them in the first thirty seconds by reaching for hot water.

Heat sets protein and chlorophyll stains permanently. Once you have cooked one into the fibers, nothing later brings it back. Cold water only, until the stain is gone.

Rinse the spot from the back of the fabric so it travels out the way it came in. Work a little liquid detergent in with your fingers, not a brush, because a brush frays the weave and makes the mark look worse. Let it sit ten minutes.

Wash cold, then check before it goes anywhere near the dryer. And do not leave the bag sitting in a hot car overnight. Damp grass-stained cotton in this climate goes from a stain problem to a smell problem overnight.

Homework, practice, dinner, baths, reading log, bedtime. Somewhere in there the laundry is supposed to happen too.

It does not have to. Bring your bags in and our team washes, dries and folds everything for you. We sort by color, fold flat and match the socks, so it comes back ready for the drawer instead of living in a basket at the end of the hallway for four days.

Most orders are ready the same day or the next. Drop it off on your way to work or straight after the school run.

One thing that matters more here than most places: everything comes back completely dry, through the seams and the waistbands. Clothes that go into a closet even slightly damp in this humidity will smell by the weekend.

Parents tell us the same thing every fall. It is not really about the laundry, it is about getting a whole evening back during the busiest stretch of the year.
