✨TIP TUESDAY✨

Glass shower doors 😫 we love to hate them. If you’ve got them in your home you know how hard they are to keep clean. First part of tip Tuesday, if you’re thinking about installing glass shower doors, go with muted glass. They still need regular cleaning, obviously, but you won’t go nuts if they don’t look like perfection when you’re done or in between cleans.

✨Now for the actual tip:
After you shower or after cleaning, always rinse doors/shower glass with cold water. Hot water during cleaning/scrubbing is best because it helps to break down soap scum and body oils, but a final rinse using ice cold water prevents mineral buildup, prevents spotting, and improves squeegee results because it allows the glass to stay wet longer than hot water does.

✨ I have one biweekly spot available in my schedule that can fit one high traffic cleaning (kitchen, bathrooms, main living room, stairs/foyer) text or call me (Casey) 570-468-7989 if interested. ✨

✨TIP TUESDAY✨

The type of shower head you have is a giant deal.
Detachable shower heads are a cheap swap out if you don’t already have one, and if you’re trying to clean your shower and bath without one you know just how much harder it is if you don’t have one.
I carry a plastic cup with me-every cleaning lady does. Many houses do not have detachable heads and you can’t clean a dry shower nor can you just wipe away products, you’ve got to be able to rinse and dry.
Here’s the actual tip: first, go ahead and replace the shower head 🤣 and second, every time you take a shower, give your whole shower stall and floor a good rinse. Keep a bottle of Dawn Powerwash in there next to your shampoo and conditioner. Once you’re out, spray down your wet shower and let it sit while you towel off, then give it a thorough rinse and move on with your day.
The buildup of products and what we in the biz refer to as “body butter” (dead skin) starts immediately. The spray and rinse helps to break that down right away, as well as the moisturizers and oils in the shower products that you just used. This daily habit, or even two/three times weekly habit will save you so much time and energy when you’re actually cleaning the bathtub and shower stall. ✨

✨TIP TUESDAY ✨

This one is so simple and not so well known. Almost every stainless steel polish on the market is trash, especially the wipes! The only exception, and always my second in command would be Zep aerosol stainless polish, but the rest? I wouldn’t recommend spending a hard earned dime on any of them.
For perfect stainless my first choice is always Orange Glo. Yes, it’s wood furniture polish, but it’s completely safe for all grades of stainless steel. You won’t get a better shine and polish than you will with this.
Orange Glo contains both mineral and orange oil which remove all of the hazy buildup or greasy stains from your stainless appliances.
When applied correctly, it will leave a light, protective barrier that prevents new grime and prints from from sticking to the stainless, and it even hides small imperfections and scratches.

Steps for use:
I always clean the appliances first. I spray and wipe down with my general cleanser, allow to dry, then spray a little (a little goes a long way here!) Orange Glo directly into a microfiber towel. Apply to stainless working in the direction of the grain. You’ll wind up with a flawless shine, trust me!

The mop you’re using matters! And this is why I only clean with a mopping system that offers separate tanks for clean and dirty water. The left side is where the clean water and floor cleaner was, the right is where I spun out all the dirty water as I was mopping.
With a regular mopping system, the very minute you dip your clean mop head into the water/solution, and make one pass over your floors, your “clean” mopping water is now dirty. Then what? You either continue to mop with dirty water, or you change your mop water after every room? Sounds like a waste of time and/or too much work for me.
Invest in a good mopping system. It’s a time saver and although no system is 100% perfect, a two tank system is your closest bet.

It’s ✨TIP TUESDAY ✨

We need to have a serious talk about bleach. There are so many products on the market that are bleach based, super harsh, and definitely not needed on a day to day basis to clean your home. I carry one product in my caddy that is bleach based (Zep Mold and Mildew Stain Remover) and one bottle will last me months and months because I rarely reach for it.

Let’s talk about why:
Notice the name says “stain remover” and not “mold killer”? I use this bleach based product only for really roughed up shower stalls that need extra brightening. Yep, that’s it. 99.9% of the time when I am cleaning a shower/bath stall I am using nothing but Dawn Powerwash, water, and a scrub brush.

✨Bleach does not kill mold-all it does is change the color. It does not kill mold at the root. The mold is still there, no matter how much bleach spray you throw down. Hydrogen Peroxide is the better option.
✨Bleach is corrosive and will eventually ruin your shower, bath, and grout. Your grout will eventually start to crumble. The protective coating on your shower (most are fiberglass or acrylic) will wear away, start to yellow from the bleach, and essentially make it impossible for you to keep it looking clean or get the staining from the bleach out in the future.

‼️Mold is a moisture issue, not a cleaning issue, and it’s really not something a housecleaner can or should deal with outside of small areas in a bath or shower that need some brightening during a regular cleaning. Mold removal beyond that requires proper education and safety protocols and is best left to an environmental cleanup professional. Lastly, please, please, please never spray bleach products ahead of your house cleaners arrival! I’ve had to add this to my new client outline because it happened to me a few times. Bleach, when mixed with other cleaning chemical can make hazardous fumes and gases and it makes it very unsafe for us to try to complete the cleaning.

Thanks for reading Just The Tip Tuesday. Be back next week 😉 570-468-7989 for estimate or booking info.
