But tuckpointing and repointing are actually two different masonry techniques, and the difference matters when you are paying for the work. Repointing is the structural repair: grinding out failed mortar and packing new mortar into the joints. Tuckpointing is an older decorative technique using two colors of mortar to mimic finely jointed brickwork.
