We’ve had many inquiries about our Fluid Film Protective Undercoating application and how we do it:
Step 1: Prep
We take the vehicle in our shop and clean the wheels, tires, wheel wells. Then we use degreaser and salt gone(salt and brine remover) to strip the undercarriage.
Step 2: DRY!
One of, if not the most important step is let it fully dry. The film will not stick to a wet or damp surface.
Step 3: Apply
We typically use a heater (film sticks better to warm metal) and apply the film to the entire undercarriage *minus exhaust*
Step 4: Door jams, hoods, battery , Fluid film is a protectant versus corrosion so we apply it to all of your door jams latches, hood holes, and battery terminals
Step 5: Rinse the film
we finish every film with a maintenance exterior package. This gets any settled unwanted film off the paint or glass, more for safety than appearance.
This is the ultimate winter prep for any vehicle. The only negative of this application is the scent stinks for a few days, but so does rust. The Fluid Film Undercoating Products are used on military, farm, and commercial construction equipment.
This service usually takes 4-6 hours as the longest part is allowing the undercarriage to fully dry.
“How long does it last?”
- usually 12 months, however if your vehicle has a more open undercarriage (trucks) it’ll last a shorter amount of time. We’ve had people do it every 2 years and we’ve had people who didn’t need another application at all. It all depends on how much use the vehicle and the conditions of winter.
“Is it harmful?”
Absolutely not. It is lanolin based so it’s practically an oil which repels water not allowing any salt or brine to pe*****te to the frame. Remember the old used motor oil or diesel tricks everyone talks about, well this is the safer/ right way to apply a protective layer.
*If you have a vehicle that is already rotting or full of rust it will NOT stop the rust/ rot. It may help preserve the frame for however much time is left, but it is not a rust stopper. It is a great preventative.
We’re also booking this service two weeks out now so If you haven’t scheduled please message me asap or give me a call/ text because once winter shows and snow starts to come down, we have an additional $50 fee as the prep is a longer procedure.
