Depicted today is an intake door that needed a full replacement. In order for an intake door to be NFPA Fire Code compliant, it must be self closing and positive latching. Failure to do so will result in the need for a full replacement.

Fire doors and close off doors are a good combo to have to maximize safety in properties that need to maneuver trash containers. Remember, your fire doors cannot function as close off doors. If you attempt to use your fire door to close off the chute, the fusible link will break, rendering it completely inoperable until the fusible link is replaced. Additionally, fire discharge doors are not designed to withstand the force of falling trash, which could cause further damage to the discharge door.

Depicted today is a fire door that needed to be replaced due to breaking. It’s important to remember that fire doors should not be operated by maintenance personnel. Fire doors cannot be returned to their original position once it has been forced to close, so closing them will necessitate repair or even replacement.

Safety violations are some of the real scares of the season. Broken, missing, or otherwise inoperable fire doors cannot prevent fires in the trash room from climbing the chutes and accessing each floor of the building. NFPA 82 fire code was designed with the maximum amount of safety in mind. Don’t compromise the safety of your building!

The installation depicted today is of a fire door installed on a chute that previously did not have one. Without the fire door, the large, grease lined opening of the chute provides fuel for fires to climb and spread. The fire door’s fusible link dissolves before the flames reach the chute, causing it to slam shut.

In this room sanitization, the built up grease and grime on the floors posed a safety and fire risk for anyone attempting to use the trash chutes. After our sanitization services, the room was able to meet NFPA 82 Fire Code requirements and the room is now safe for resident use.
