Can we talk about how everyone is villainizing Airbnb hosts over this checkout chore situation when Airbnb itself is the real problem?
And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, go spend five minutes on TikTok because my entire For You page is nothing but people dragging Airbnb hosts and celebrating that they no longer have to pick up their own trash. 🙄
I understand not wanting to do a bunch of chores on vacation. I really do. But why are we acting like the person who owns the property is the enemy? Airbnb takes its cut, sets the rules, changes the policies whenever they want, and somehow the host is the villain for trying to keep their business profitable.
As someone who runs a cleaning business, I can tell you that starting a load of laundry and turning on the dishwasher saves so much time during a turnover. With same-day checkouts and check-ins, time is everything. Honestly, if hosts can no longer ask guests to do these simple things, same-day turnovers might become a thing of the past. That means they have to charge a higher price per night and a higher cleaning fee.
Y’all, it is NOT that serious to wash your own dishes and pick up your own trash. 😂 You’re on vacation, not at a five-star resort with a full staff waiting on you.
If you have a favorite Airbnb, ask about booking direct next time! Save yourself some money, save the host some fees, and stop feeding the corporate giant. 🌵
