Why is it essential to seal your brick chimney?

1) Bricks are porous and absorb water when exposed to rain, snow, or high humidity.
2) Water inside the brick can freeze and expand, creating internal pressure.
3) The expansion caused by freezing water generates stress in the brick, leading to cracks.
4) As the brick undergoes multiple freeze-thaw cycles, it can deteriorate through a process known as spalling, where pieces of the brick's surface flake off or crumble away.
5) Spalling can weaken the overall structure of the brick, leading to more extensive chimney damage, including mortar joint breakdown and potential water pe*******on into the wall or structure.
6) Neglecting proper maintenance and protection can accelerate chimney deterioration.
7) Freeze-thaw damage can compromise the structural integrity of the entire chimney, potentially leading to costly repairs or even partial or complete rebuilding.
