A beautiful day for volunteering!
Today along with other volunteers, we cleaned up trash on Kirkwood Blvd between Brady & Jersey Ridge. Many people stopped to ask us questions & thank us for what we were doing! Some pups 🐶 even stopped by to say hi. I bet more people would have came out to volunteer had they known about it, so we will be posting upcoming volunteer events that we are participating in🖤
Among wide variety of items we picked up, here are some of the most common finds:
🚮 Plastic of all sorts including: grocery bags, fast food containers, straws, “disposable” v**e pens etc.
🚮 Glass: TONS of thrown out alcohol bottles
🚮 Ci******es: too many too count & too many too pick up. We tried our best, but it would have taken an extreme amount of time to get them all.
🚮 Dryer sheets: this one surprised me. We picked up SO MANY dryer sheets.
The list goes on. We filled the bed of the truck in three hours.
With summer approaching and rain on its way, that means any trash on the ground gets washed directly in to the river and straight in to the ocean.
Our goal at QC Green Clean is to be able to volunteer in the community & bring awareness to these things. A lot of us don’t actually litter, however when the garbage trucks take our trash the bags rip and our garbage ends up on the streets. That is why it is important to seek out alternatives for things like plastic & dryer sheets.
I can guess that 99% of what we gathered today were all one time use items. Most of which can take hundreds to THOUSANDS of years to biodegrade. These items will outlast us on this earth & that is horrible to think about.
It feels great to be able to make a difference in the community & to share our experience. Hope to see you at the next volunteer opportunity!
Thank you to Andrew Lutz for organizing this event!
