Don’t let your chimney end up like this one! Hammer was used 3 times during demo. Rebuilt with standard red brick, extended the flue with a stainless steel cap, acid washed and sealed with Siloxane PD, and elastomeric sealants on the crown and flashing to ensure this chimney remains water tight for decades to come!

Get your chimney inspected every few years to catch problems early and lead to simpler repairs/waterproofing

Is your fireplace looking very wet all the time on the inside? It could be due to a broken/cracked/ or non existent crown and cap such as this chimney here. We strengthened up the whole top of this chimney with a minor repoint, set a new crown, taller flues, elastomeric seal and a brand new Stainless Steel cap to prevent excess water from entering the flue and chimney causing further damage down below.

Just a friendly reminder to make sure you have a cap on top of your chimney flue. This cap job was cut short after noticing a mother squirrel chewed right through a metal liner to nest. Thankfully this flue is designated to a gas fireplace not being used or this customer would of been at high risk of carbon monoxide entering the home due to the flue being completely blocked. A frequent question I receive is how often should my pellet stove be cleaned. To rely on your pellet stove and keep it running top notch all winter, professional cleanings should be done yearly. While cleaning and maintaining the firebox is important, making sure all of the pet hair, dust & sawdust collected in the rear is removed and all motors get lubricated is VITAL to proper safe operation. As the stove is running, the rear of the stove acts as a vacuuming pulling air for the fire, this in turn brings in alot of flammable material that hangs in the stove, and creates a fire hazard. Over time the bearings in the motors will fail due to this debris, and you will be left without your stove entirely.

Each year the interior firebox, full rear portion of the stove and total venting (chimney included) should be cleaned and maintained professionally to avoid any problems and shut downs in the winter. So plan to have it cleaned during off season when the stove is not being used to ensure your stove will fire up & run trouble free for the cold winter season

As we are in the middle of winter make sure you’re monitoring your stoves for good draft and that they are burning properly to avoid a dangerous situation like this. If your wood stove is having trouble maintaining a fire it may be because of a dangerous creosote build up hindering the draft.
