Sometimes it starts with some small action.
Having a cleaning business, i see the effects depression and trauma can have when I see a home and start cleaning. Like Marie Kondo, I ask things like is this serving a purpose, is it giving you joy?..
Too many start trying to focus on too many sectors. If you dwindle down to a specific item like clothing, toys, books, decorative items then you can actually tackle. No wonder most give up the fight- too much overload on our physiological and emotional well being.
Taking on a small sector of your home whether it is decluttering, or actual cleaning takes alot of physical energy, decision making, emotion regulation and lastly a sense of achievement.
Which serves to make you want to continue because it's giving you that sense of achievement and being physically active creates new neuron pathways that stimulate many positive feedback systems.
That's what we call the feedback loop. This is what propels us for with one small action.
A single action everyday in cleaning or organizing reaps benefits in the long run and magnifies the effect. Overtime, there will be less and less to organize and possibly decluttering less and less to clean.
It's not that you "cant" it's because you may not have the mental energy yet. Don't tell yourself you can't.
Just try and it'll produce action.
That's the golden ticket.
Symptoms like fatigue and lack of motivation can make it feel very difficult to start cleaning — but a messy house can contribute to low mood, too.
