Cleaners, what’s something you do at your own house that you’d never do at a clients house?
Let’s face it, sometimes as professionals that clean all day long, at the end of the day or on our days off, we don’t really feel like cleaning our own house. I equate it to something my Auntie told me once. My Uncle owned his own mechanic shop. She said, “he fixes other peoples cars all week long and mine is held together with duct tape.” 😂
My home is 86 years old. Filled with character that I love. Crystal door k***s, drawer pulls and skeleton keys. The old cast iron/porcelain bathtub is original to the house. When I decided to tile in a shower surround, and do a bit of bathroom remodeling, I kept the tub because they just don’t make them that deep to relax in anymore. Unfortunately, the clear coat is worn off. This means if you step in the bathtub with dirty feet, you will leave behind a dirty footprint that can only be removed with barkeepers friend and a magic eraser. To avoid having to clean my shower and bathtub so frequently, I started using this little hack to keep my bathtub and shower tiles cleaner longer. After giving it a good scrub down deep clean, I wait for it to dry, spray it down with car wax and buff it out. No, it does not make it slick, it keeps the pink mold, mildew, and soap scum away longer. It also provides a barrier so those pesky footprints don’t show right away.
As members of our household have celiac and/or IBSD,💩 splatters are bound to happen. It can be frustrating to clean the toilet and just a few hours later, it can look like you haven’t cleaned it in a week. Since no one can seem to grab the toilet brush that sits 6 inches away from the toilet and get those 💩 splatters themselves, I decided I needed to come up with a hack to keep the toilet cleaner longer. After the toilet has been thoroughly cleaned, and the sides of the bowl have dried, I spray the bowl down with Rain X. This keeps the splatters from sticking for a longer period of time which means I don’t have to spend my day off cleaning. Rain X can also be used on glass shower doors to help prevent build up. Call me crazy, but when I get down and dirty in my own home, I want my clean to last as long as possible.
