A septic system installed right in 2026 should still be working in 2046.

That's the difference between a professional installation and a shortcut job. We're not just digging holes and dropping tanks—we're engineering a system that handles your property's specific soil conditions, water table, and usage patterns.

Proper grading. Quality materials. Rigorous testing before we backfill. It takes longer, costs a bit more upfront, and saves you thousands in repairs down the road.

When Cody and the team install your septic system, we're setting you up for decades of reliable service. Because fixing it right the first time is always cheaper than fixing it twice.

What's the difference between septic and sewer?

If you're new to Western Iowa or buying your first home out here, this isn't just trivia—it changes how you handle every drain in your house.

Sewer systems are municipal. Your wastewater goes through city pipes to a treatment plant. You pay monthly, the city handles the main line, but if the line from the main to your house breaks, that's on you—and that's where we come in.

Septic systems are on your property. Wastewater goes into a tank in your yard, solids settle, liquids filter through your laterals back into the soil. No monthly bill, but all maintenance and repairs fall on you.

You're responsible for pumping your tank every 3-5 years, watching what goes down your drains, and fixing problems when they come up. The upside? You're not paying the city every month. The downside? When your septic fails at 11pm on a Saturday, you need someone like Cody who actually answers the phone.

Whether you're on sewer or septic, know where your lines run, when your system was last serviced, and who to call when things go sideways.

Behind every quality installation is a crew that knows what they're doing.

Our team has been working together for years, and they know our standards: quality materials, proper techniques, and treating every property like it's our own. They're the ones operating the equipment, installing the systems, and making sure everything is done right before we backfill.

When you hire Western Iowa Utilities, you're getting experienced professionals who take pride in their work—not a rotating cast of whoever showed up that day.

We're a locally-owned company, and that means the people working on your property are part of this community too. They live here, their families are here, and their reputation matters!

We don't just install utility systems—we set you up so they keep working for decades.

That means using quality materials that won't fail in five years. It means proper installation techniques that account for your property's specific conditions. It means testing everything before we backfill so you're not dealing with problems later.

And it means taking the time to explain what we did, what to watch for, and when to call us if something seems off!

We get asked sometimes why our quotes might be higher than the guy down the road. Fair question. Here's the honest answer:

We don't cut corners on materials. Ever.

Cheap pipe fails early. Substandard tanks crack. Bargain-grade components mean you're calling us back in 5 years instead of 20.

When we install your water line, sewer line, or septic system, we're using quality materials that are built to last—because we're not interested in quick jobs that fail. We're interested in setting you up for long-term success so you can forget about your utility infrastructure and get on with your life.

That's the difference between a contractor and a partner. We're in this for the long haul.

Spring thaw hitting Western Iowa means it's time to think about your septic system.

After a long winter, your laterals have been through freeze-thaw cycles that can affect how it drains. Now's the perfect time to watch for warning signs: slow drains, soggy spots in your yard, or sewage odors.

Caught early, most septic issues are straightforward fixes. Wait too long, and you're looking at emergency repairs—or worse, a full system replacement.

Not sure if that water line issue needs professional help? Here's when to call us:

• Water pressure suddenly drops throughout the house
• Wet spots or pooling water in your yard with no clear source
• Water bill jumps without explanation
• Discolored or rusty water coming from taps
• Gurgling sounds when you run water

These aren't "wait and see" situations. A small water line leak today becomes a major repair (and a massive water bill) tomorrow.

We'd rather you call and have us tell you it's nothing than wait until you've got a flooded yard and no water pressure.

This week we wrapped up a full septic system installation for a homeowner outside of Harlan.

Old system was failing, and they needed it done right before spring. Cody and the crew excavated, installed a new tank and drain field, tested everything thoroughly, and had them back in business within the timeline we promised.

The homeowner told us the best part wasn't just the quality work—it was knowing exactly what to expect from day one. No surprises, no runaround, just straight answers and a system that's going to serve them reliably for decades.

That's how we do every residential project, whether it's a septic installation, water line repair, or drain field replacement. Clear communication, quality materials, and workmanship you can count on.
