Alright, quick DYI talk.

Everybody starts grabbing DYI stuff the second the weather shifts. I get it. I’ve tried a bunch of that stuff myself just to see what people are working with. Some of it helps a little… most of it doesn’t touch the real problem.

Here’s something most people don’t know though:

We’ve got a non-exempt organic product we use outside that actually moves with the air. It gets into spots you can’t reach with a can from the store. That’s the difference when you bring in someone who actually does this for a living.

If you want a couple basic DYI things that don’t get you in trouble, here you go:

• Keep the bushes and plants off the house
• Knock down moisture around the outside
• Seal the obvious gaps
• Keep the food sealed
• Take the trash out, don’t let it sit

That’s it. Simple stuff. Nothing crazy.

But if you’re seeing ants, spiders, or anything popping inside, don’t sit there fighting it for a month with DYI. That’s when you call someone who actually handles this every day and has the real tools.

You do your part, and I’ll handle the heavy lifting.

Did you know most shop-bought rodenticides are packed with bromethalin, a nasty neurotoxin with no antidote? That’s right—if a pet or anyone else gets into it, there’s no quick fix. Meanwhile, restricted-use rodenticides often use anticoagulants, which can be sorted with a dose of vitamin K₁ in case of an accident.

Here’s the twist—those over-the-counter options might seem tough as nails, but restricted-use products are actually a bit more clever when it comes to avoiding secondary poisoning. It’s all about using the right tools for the job without causing a bigger mess.

If you’re scratching your head over a rodent problem or just want the lowdown on the best approach, drop me a message. We’ll work it out together and get things sorted properly.

Rodent Prevention Tips for Homeowners
1. Seal Entry Points
Inspect your home for cracks, gaps, or holes the size of a dime or larger. Use steel wool, caulk, or metal mesh to block access.
2. Eliminate Food Sources
Keep all food in airtight containers, including pet food. Clean crumbs and spills immediately to avoid attracting rodents.
3. Secure Trash
Use garbage cans with tight-fitting lids and store them away from your home’s exterior.
4. Declutter Indoors
Reduce clutter in basements, attics, and garages. Rodents love to nest in hidden piles of cardboard, paper, or unused items.
5. Clear Outdoor Debris
Remove brush piles, overgrown vegetation, and firewood stored near your home. These are prime nesting sites.
6. Maintain Landscaping
Trim tree branches and shrubs away from the house. Rodents can use them as bridges to access your roof or attic.
7. Inspect Weather Stripping
Check doors and windows for worn-out weather stripping or gaps, and replace them as needed.
8. Fix Leaks
Rodents need water, too. Repair leaking faucets, pipes, and standing water sources to discourage them.
9. Check Your Home Regularly
Conduct routine inspections in crawl spaces, attics, and behind appliances to catch signs of rodent activity early.
10. Stay Ahead of the Game
Professional exclusion services can help seal vulnerabilities and reinforce your home’s defenses against rodents.

Rodents are persistent, but you can outsmart them with these steps. Prevention is the key to protecting your home and health. Don’t wait for a problem—act now!

Stay vigilant, Long Island!

Living in Long Island, New York, it’s cold, and the biggest pest problem we face is rodents—mice and rats. Over the years, exclusion has proven to be the most effective solution. Since COVID, the increase in rodent activity has been off the charts. They’re taking advantage of cracked premises, tiny entry points, and neglected spaces to get inside.

Even with all the progress made, services are still essential. Believe it or not, I was treating ants this past Christmas Eve! Pests don’t take a holiday, and neither should prevention. Seal those cracks, check your home, and stay ahead of the game. Exclusion isn’t just a fix—it’s the first line of defense.
