Information on the Possible Sale of the Borough of Conshohocken Authority Sewer System
The Borough of Conshohocken Authority has received numerous inquiries from our customers regarding the status of the possible sale of our municipal sewer system. The following is a summary of the procedure and actions taken to date.
During its January 20, 2021 meeting, the Conshohocken Borough Council took several actions which will prepare the Council for a potential sale of the Authority’s sewer system including approving the solicitation for bids to purchase our sewer system. On February 12th the Borough then received three bids to purchase the system from the following companies: Aqua, Pennsylvania American Water, and Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority. The value of the bids has not yet been disclosed, however, these values will be made available to the public.
Borough Council at its February 17th meeting also approved an ordinance that will require the Authority to convey the sewer system, property, and assets to the Borough. This action will make it easier for the Borough to effectuate the sale. Although all Authority assets are to be conveyed to the Borough, Borough management has directed that all daily operations and management of the sewer system shall continue as usual and will be handled by the Authority.
At its February 17th meeting, the Council also passed Resolution 04-2021 which set new rates for customers of the Authority who reside outside of the Borough. The Authority services not only residents and business within Conshohocken Borough, but also West Conshohocken Borough and a portion of Plymouth Township. Prior to the passage of this Resolution, rates for customers within Conshohocken Borough and the serviced area of Plymouth Township were calculated under the same method but rates for customers of West Conshohocken were calculated differently. The reason for this was to ensure that neither ratepayers in Conshohocken Borough nor Plymouth Township were charged for the Authority’s acquisition of the West Conshohocken Borough’s sewer system and pumping station, which occurred in 2018.
The Council has assured the Authority’s Board of Directors that its Members, Borough management and staff take this matter very seriously and will exercise their due diligence in thoroughly reviewing all aspects of a potential sewer system sale as well as alternative revenue-generating options. The Council will review the bids with the public at their March 17th meeting.
Should you have any further questions regarding the possible sale of the Authority’s sewer system, the conveyance of Authority assets or the new rate structure, please reach out to Conshohocken Borough or your Ward’s Council Member through this link.. http://www.conshohockenpa.gov/your-government/borough-council.aspx . You can also contact the Borough offices at 610-828-1092.
