***WHY AN INSPECTION IS NECESSARY FOR PRICE QUOTING***
One of the most common questions that I get from prospective clients is: “how much do you charge for Bed Bug/general pest services?”. My response is always, “In order to give you a price, I’ll need to inspect first”. In some cases, people get flustered and never get scheduled. In many other cases, folks truly appreciate how I conduct business.
While I understand that people want to know the price up front, here are some reasons why we will NEVER provide a price prior to an inspection.
1. Identification. The first step to addressing a pest problem is to positively and professionally identify what we are working with. For example, Bed Bugs are often misidentified with other bugs, specifically ones that bite. If we provide a price for a service that we have not identified to be the target pest, that can and should create mistrust and a misapplication of pesticide.
2. Infestation level. While there are several factors that contribute to the cost of Bed Bug and other services, the main factor is the level of infestation. Often times, folks will provide me with the size of their home in terms of rooms and overall square footage, hoping that this will give a better idea of cost. While this MAY be a contributing factor, it does not determine the cost. The infestation level is what determines how many treatments are necessary to get the problem resolved. Without coming out for an inspection, I’m unable to determine the infestation level. Thus, I’m unable to provide an accurate price for the service.
3. Public trust. I have a high reputation for providing my current and prospective clients with the very best customer experience and world-class service. If you call me and I’m unwilling to come out to your property to inspect, identify what you’re actually dealing with, the level of infestation that you have and work to obtain your respect and trust, then I’d highly recommend that you hire someone else to help you. This sufficiently communicates to you that I’m only interested in providing you with a price rather than the time it takes to develop trust and real solutions to your problem. Also, would you trust someone to be in your home applying pesticides who you’ve never met before? In the same way, if you’re only looking for a price and not in having an inspection first, I’m also going to encourage you to look elsewhere. While my goal is to help you, I’m not willing to cut corners to make money. I do provide the best service with proven results. However, it comes from doing things the right way- every time.
Finally, I do charge for an inspection for all pest calls. The fee is based solely upon the location of the property and the distance that I have to travel to get there. This fee is expected at the time of scheduling- not at the time of the inspection. It’s also non-refundable. The good thing is that if you move forward with treatment, I’ll apply the fee that’s already been paid toward the treatment(s). Thus, making the inspection free. If you don’t move forward with treatment, then the inspection is a billable service.
I hope that this helps to answer the question of why I will not provide a price up front. There are other reasons but I didn’t want this to be too long. While price is important to you, it shouldn’t be the most important thing. In fact, if a company charges very little for a treatment, I’d look elsewhere. Cheaper is not always better. Additionally, the most expensive treatment is not always best either.
If you need our services, reach out today and we will get you scheduled! I look forward to serving you!
