Why are so many people suddenly seeing roof leaks after this weekend’s snow?

After the 8+ inches of snow we got, many homeowners are dealing with something called ice dams — and they can cause real damage if left unchecked.

So… what’s an ice dam?
An ice dam forms when snow on your roof melts (usually from heat escaping your home), then refreezes near the colder edges of the roof. That refrozen ice creates a “dam” that traps melting snow behind it.

Why that’s a problem:
That trapped water has nowhere to go — so instead of draining off the roof, it can:
❄️ Work its way under shingles
❄️ Leak into attics, ceilings, and walls
