This ice storm is basically over but here are some tips to help you get ready for these type events and possible outages
Please know that Youngs Water will always put your health and safety first concerning water issues! However, In the event that you lose water pressure or complete service at any time(storm or not) the protocol is to boil any water you are consuming for at least ONE MINUTE before consumption. This does not automatically mean something is wrong with the water, but it is the recommended standard procedure anytime pressure drops and cetainly any time the water is off. If you have concerns at anytime, please follow the standards to boil your water. George is very thorough and if he has any concerns, water customers will be notified immediately! Here are a few other tips:
How to prepare for an ice storm
Water Supply & Storage
Stockpile Potable Water: Store at least 1 gallon of drinking water per person per day for at least 3 days.
Fill Tubs and Buckets: Fill bathtubs, sinks, and large containers with water just before the storm hits to use for flushing toilets or washing, in case the water supply fails.
Freezer Storage: Fill empty space in your freezer with bottles of water. This helps the freezer stay cold longer if the power goes out, and you can thaw them to drink.
Protecting Pipes and Faucets
Let Faucets Drip: Allow cold and hot water faucets to trickle or drip slowly, especially those on exterior walls, to keep water moving and prevent freezing.
Open Cabinet Doors: Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors under sinks to allow warmer, circulating air to reach pipes.
Insulate Pipes: Insulate exposed pipes in unheated areas like basements, crawl spaces, and attics.
Exterior Faucets: Disconnect garden hoses and use insulated covers on outdoor spigots.

System Preparation
Locate Shut-Off Valve: Know where your main water shut-off valve is in case a pipe bursts and you need to stop the flow.
Keep Heat On: Maintain your home's thermostat above 55 degrees, even if you are leaving, to prevent pipes from freezing.
Close Garages: Keep garage doors closed to protect plumbing in that space.
