LET’S TALK ABOUT PAINT PROTECTION FILM (PPF) AND SOME OF THE MISINFORMATION OUT THERE! 🚨
I’ve heard shops tell customers they don’t recommend paint protection film because “it turns yellow” or “it’s a nightmare to remove.”
Let’s put something into perspective.
First off, just because your shop doesn’t offer a service doesn’t mean that service isn’t worth having.
Yes, paint protection film can yellow over time. Yes, older film can become difficult to remove. But here’s what people need to understand.
If PPF has been sitting on a vehicle for 7–10 years, exposed to Florida sunshine, heat, rain, road debris, and thousands of miles of driving, you can’t expect it to look or remove like it was installed yesterday!
It’s a protective product with a service life, not something designed to stay on a vehicle forever.
And modern, quality PPF is significantly better at resisting yellowing than older generations of film.
Now let’s talk about what that film has been doing for those 7–10 years.
Imagine owning a $250,000 Lamborghini or Ferrari.
You catch a rock on the highway. It chips the hood, damages the bumper, or leaves multiple imperfections across the front end.
Now you’re looking at professional paintwork, potentially expensive color matching, and possibly affecting the originality of an exotic vehicle’s factory finish.
Would you rather replace a piece of protective film or potentially repaint an expensive factory-painted panel?
That’s the entire purpose of PPF!
It’s a sacrificial layer designed to take everyday punishment so your factory paint doesn’t have to.
And let’s not act like removing old film is automatically a disaster. Yes, aged or deteriorated film can be challenging to remove, and there are risks depending on the paint’s condition. That’s why professional removal matters!
Here’s what really bothers me about this industry:
If you don’t install PPF, that’s perfectly fine. Not every shop needs to offer every service.
But don’t discourage customers from protecting their investment just because it’s not something you specialize in.
Educate them on the benefits, the limitations, the maintenance, and the eventual replacement.
A good shop doesn’t have to sell everything. But a good shop should be honest about everything.
At Ultra Elite Auto Spa, I believe in helping customers understand what they’re purchasing, not just selling them a product.
PPF isn’t indestructible. It isn’t permanent. And it won’t stop every single rock chip.
But I’d much rather see a customer replace worn-out protective film than regret never protecting their original paint in the first place.
🔥 Protect the paint. Preserve the investment. Understand the product.
