❄️ Freeze Prep Tips for Your Pool Equipment ❄️
With freezing temperatures approaching, here are a few important steps to help keep your pool system running efficiently and avoid costly damage:
✅ Cover exposed equipment
Wrap exposed PVC pipes, pumps, and equipment with blankets, tarps, or plastic sheeting to add insulation and keep everything dry if precipitation occurs.
✅ Watch your skimmers
If ice starts forming, gently break up ice in front of skimmer openings. You can also pour warm (not hot) water into the skimmer housings to maintain proper water flow to the pump.
✅ Check your pump regularly
During a freeze, check your pump every couple of hours to ensure water isn’t freezing inside and restricting flow to the impeller.
✅ During prolonged power outages
If power is out and ice is building up inside the pump:
• Turn off equipment at the breaker or kill switch
• Remove the pump drain plugs
• Pour warm water into the pump until all water drains out
This can help prevent serious pump damage if power is restored unexpectedly.
Stay warm and protect your pool! ❄️💙
