PSA

We are experiencing heavy rains this week in the Tampa Bay area.

Stop mosquitoes before they have a chance to multiply and protect our community from the spread of dengue fever.

Mosquitoes can breed in surprisingly small amounts of standing water, even water that collects in a bottle cap. Make mosquito prevention part of your weekly routine by taking a few minutes to empty or cover anything that can hold water around your home.

At least once a week, check buckets, toys, birdbaths, gutters, coolers, tires, trash bins, pet water containers, and any place else that can hold water. Tip, toss, or cover standing water.

Together, we can help reduce mosquitoes and protect our families and communities from mosquito-borne illnesses.

Seasonal Pest Watch | October 🎃🕷️🪳

October pest activity can look a little different around Florida homes as fall settles in.
Drywood termites may still be swarming, spiders can become more noticeable as egg sacs appear, silverfish may turn up when seasonal décor comes out of storage, and Florida woods cockroaches can stay tucked into damp outdoor areas.

Knowing what to watch for can make it easier to spot pest activity before it becomes a bigger issue.

Do you have any old tires you need to get rid of? Now is your chance!

To help reduce mosquito breeding and limit the spread of dengue fever, Pinellas County Solid Waste is waiving residential tire disposal fees until Oct. 30, 2026. Tires stored outside homes can collect water and become breeding sites for thousands of mosquitoes over a single season. Removing unwanted tires and other sources of standing water helps reduce the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses, including dengue fever.

During this time, Pinellas County residents may dispose of up to four tires, no more than 36 inches in diameter, at no charge at the Solid Waste Disposal Complex, 3095 114th Ave. N., St. Petersburg. Tires must be separated from other trash or waste. Rims may remain attached. Residents must show a valid driver’s license as proof of Pinellas County residency, and closed-toes shoes are required onsite. 🪳 𝗙𝗔𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲?

Roaches aren’t always out in the open. They tend to stay tucked away in dark, hidden areas during the day and become more active once the lights go out.

Knowing their favorite hiding spots can help you understand where activity may be coming from.
