What to expect following a storm after the storm has passed

Please be patient.
Keep household garbage, recycling, and vegetative and/or construction storm debris in separate piles.
Solar Sanitation’s number one priority is the collection of household garbage.
Securely containerize all household garbage in plastic bags or cans to be placed curbside on your scheduled day.
Don't place any debris near or on a fence, mailbox, power line equipment, poles, transformers, downed electrical wiring, water meters, fire hydrants or storm drains.

Once a storm has passed, Solar Sanitation’s response plan includes the following tasks:

Re-establishing normal household garbage and food waste collection is our first priority.
It may be 3-6 weeks before the first collection of storm debris (vegetation and building material) is provided.
Clean vegetation only will be collected on the first pass with construction debris and mixed loads (construction debris mixed with vegetation) on subsequent passes.
Please do not call and ask that trucks be pulled from scheduled routes to pick up your own debris first. Deviation from carefully planned routes causes delays in the entire process and creates a burden to those with the greatest need.

Please continue to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Ian. Questions about Tropical Storm Ian? The Pinellas County Information Center is open today from 8 am - 8 p.m. for storm questions call 727-464-4333

Debris removal continues in unincorporated Pinellas

· Coordinated collection underway for debris left behind by Hurricane Irma
· Residents asked to not place debris in bags
· Pickup arrangements available for unincorporated residents on private roads

A week into Pinellas County’s storm debris collection program, hundreds of workers have cleared county rights-of-way in dozens of unincorporated communities and continue to work seven days a week.

Collections are underway in 16 zones across unincorporated county and more zones are expected to be added this week. A first pass of all zones is expected to be fully completed over the next four weeks with additional collections to follow as needed. A second collection will give residents additional time to place their debris in their nearest right-of-way.

Residents are asked to be patient as the crews make their way throughout the county to clear the debris.

As a reminder, residents are asked to not place debris in trash bags. Debris should be sorted by item type and placed in separate piles at the public (county) right-of-way; not in the street.

Crews are currently working on the following zones: INON03; INON05; INON06; INON07; INON08; INSW02; INSW03; INSE05; INSE06; INSE07; INSE08; INSE09; INSW05; INSW06; INSW07; INSE10. Residents can view the Debris Collection Routes Map at http://arcg.is/2fe9NEi.

If residents live on private roads or in private communities and are unable to bring the debris to the closest public right-of-way, they are asked to call Pinellas County Public Works at (727) 464-8900 for other arrangements. Residents are also advised to contact their regular garbage hauler to have it picked up.

These are the specific items that can be moved to the curbside for collection:

Construction and demolition debris

· Building material including roof shingles and siding
· Drywall
· Lumber
· Carpet
· Furniture
· Plumbing

Vegetation Debris

· Fallen tree branches and logs

Leaves will not be accepted.

Residents are asked to take the following steps to make the debris removal process easier:

· Sort debris by type and place in separate piles
· Do not stack debris against trees, poles, fire hydrants and storm drains
· Do not place debris on sidewalks or farther back than 10-feet beyond the curb

Municipal residents can contact their municipality about the availability of debris pickup in their area. Residents who are uncertain if their property is located within unincorporated Pinellas or within a municipality, should visit www.pinellascounty.org/resident/unincorporated_areas.htm.

This increases the volume of trash collected at every household so our collection crews will be taking longer to complete their routes.

We have several extra vehicles on the road to provide additional resources. Solar Sanitation is doing everything we can to collect your household trash in a safe and efficient manner.
