A quick word on what "ceramic coating" actually means, using this F8 Green Durango SRT Hellcat from this weekend.

A wash makes a vehicle clean. A wax makes it shine for a few weeks. A ceramic coating is a different category. It bonds to the clear coat and creates a hard, slick layer that water sheets off of, dirt struggles to grab onto, and UV has a harder time fading.

On a color like F8 Green with a forged carbon hood, that matters. Deep military greens show every water spot and swirl in direct sun. The Phobic coating we ran here adds gloss and protection a wax simply can't hold, so the finish stays looking like this longer between details.
It is not magic and it is not bulletproof. It will not stop a rock chip. What it does is buy you easier washes, better water behavior, and a richer finish that lasts. That is the honest version.

That cream-colored leather is gorgeous, and it's also the hardest interior color to keep looking right.
Light leather shows everything. Denim transfer on the bolsters, body oils where your arm rests, dust settling down into the perforations. On a daily-driven truck like this Ram 2500, it builds up fast, and most of it hides until the light catches it a certain way.

The fix isn't dumping product on it. It's cleaning gently, working the perforations without soaking them, and conditioning so the leather stays supple instead of drying out and cracking along the seams. Done right, light leather can look factory-fresh for years. Ignored, it's the first thing that ages an otherwise nice interior.

Cream seats, brown carpet, dark paint outside. A sharp combination when it's cared for the right way.

Here is something most people do not know about detailing.

The finished result on a vehicle is not really about the products you use. It is about everything that happened before the products went on. The wash technique. The decontamination steps. The patience during paint correction. The cleanliness of every towel and pad. The lighting you work under to catch what your hand cannot feel.

All the bottle in the world will not save a rushed job. And all the time in the world will not waste a careful one.

That is the difference between a wash and a detail. It is also why I will never rush a vehicle out the door.

Here's something most people don't realize about black vehicles.

Black is the most honest paint color there is. It shows every swirl mark, every dust particle, and every water spot the second light hits it. A quick wash can actually make black look worse, because dragging grit across the surface with the wrong towel is exactly what creates those spider-web scratches you see under a streetlight.

Getting a finish like this Genesis GV80 takes more than soap and water. It takes proper wash technique, decontamination to pull out what washing leaves behind, and the right attention to glass, trim, and wheels so the whole vehicle reflects evenly.

Bronze wheels look incredible, and they're one of the easiest finishes to ruin.

Most custom wheels (bronze, anodized, satin, matte) are finished with a clear-coat that's nowhere near as durable as the factory paint on your vehicle. Brake dust is acidic. The longer it sits, especially baked on in summer heat, the more it eats into that clear coat. Once the finish starts to pit, you can't polish it back. It has to be refinished.
Two things that protect a wheel like this:

One, clean them more often than you think. Brake dust isn't a once-a-month problem. On a daily driver, two weeks is the outside limit.

Two, use a pH-neutral wheel cleaner. The strong acid-based stuff you see at the parts store will strip a coated wheel faster than the brake dust will.

If your wheels cost more than your last paycheck, treat them like it.

Why darker gray and metallic paint shows every flaw:

Light colors hide dust, water spots, and minor swirls. Darker grays, charcoals, and metallics show all of it — the second sunlight hits the panel.

That's not a defect. It's physics. Darker surfaces reflect more direct light back to your eye, so any imperfection in the clear coat reads loud. The fix isn't washing more often. It's washing correctly:

→ Two-bucket method, one for soap, one for rinse — to keep grit off the paint
→ pH-balanced car soap, never dish detergent (which strips wax and sealant)
→ Microfiber wash mitt, not a sponge
→ Dry with a clean plush microfiber towel, never let it air-dry in the sun

The reason a freshly detailed darker vehicle looks like glass isn't the soap, it's the process. Skip a step and the imperfections come right back the next time the sun catches it.

Modified cars need a different eye.

This WRX has carbon fiber on the front lip and grille, surfaces that don't take the same products as the paint around them. Use the wrong sealant on composite trim and you can leave a hazy film that's tough to clear up.

The move: clean it like paint, but finish it with a product built for plastic and composite. Deep gloss, no residue, no streaks.
