As a noun, value is defined as “a person's principles or standards of behavior; one's judgment of what is important in life.”

As a verb, “to consider (someone or something) to be important or beneficial; have a high opinion of.”

Value is not always found in the lowest price. Value can be found in the personalized attention or customer service that you receive. It can be found in the knowledge and experience that comes with the product or service. It can be found in the care and the empathy in which that product or service is delivered. It’s found in that business knowing your name, knowing your pet’s name or in asking how your family is doing. It’s found when your local realtor takes the time to show you the best places to eat, your local insurance agent cares enough to ask how your day is, your local mortgage company helps to make your dreams come true.

Very often small businesses may not be the lowest price, but they are the “best value” and the ones that will appreciate you as a customer.

It's found when you put your business, your livelihood and your health- your very assets in our care. It's found in the attention to detail given to your properties- your investments.

We, in the service industry, are doing just that- providing a service. Some of these services are more of a need in our everyday lives, some are more of a luxury and a convenience.

Regardless of the type of service that we provide, it is important to remember that we are in service to others. We should never feel as if we are owed anything for making another's life a little bit easier. We are problem solvers. We fill a need. We solve a pain point. We should feel grateful and fulfilled in knowing that we have the ability to make someone's life a little easier. If you have the "what's in it for me" mentality, it may be cause for reflection on why we choose to provide a service as opposed to selling a product.

As for myself, I am thankful to have a job. I am thankful that I own a business that enables me to provide for myself and others. Your home is your haven, your space. Cleaning them is a very personal thing. I am thankful for the people who have entrusted us with their homes over the years. I am thankful for the people who trust us with their businesses. It's our job to make you look good. You trust us, quite literally, with your livelihood. I am thankful to the property owners who trust us to care for, manage, and maintain your investments.

Value is subjective. Very often, it is affected by personal taste. While one person may “value” the lowest price, others may ask themselves “what is my time worth” or “could I be making better use of my time” instead of performing a specific task.

It can be easy to overlook details on a commercial property. Complacency and unreliability are the biggest complaints that I hear.

If you own a commercial building, do yourselves, your tenants and their clients a favor. Walk through the doors with fresh eyes. Take stock of your building through the perspective of a client or potential client.

Ask yourselves these questions:

Are there cobwebs hanging from one corner to another? Are the walls all marked up? Are the baseboards dirty?

In a home, if you clean a bedroom and leave the beds unmade, the room does not look finished.

In a home, if you clean a room and leave the baseboards dirty, it will stick out like a sore thumb.

In a commercial setting, the community areas are just as important as the individual offices. It is the first impression for anyone coming through the door.

If your current service isn't investing the time to help you make a strong first impression, then what are you paying them for?

Your tenants deserve better. Their employees deserve better. Their clients and potential clients deserve better. Your building is your investment. Take care of it.
