When staying in a hotel it is a good idea to inspect your room for bed bugs as soon as you arrive. You do not want to unpack or settle in until you have checked to see if there are bed bugs in your room.Bring a small flashlight with you when going to stay at a hotel; this will make it easier to inspect your room. As soon as you arrive, keep your suitcase on the floor away from the bed or place it in the bathroom. These areas are less likely to have bed bugs. Never put your suitcase, clothes or personal items on the bed as this is the most common way to get bed bugs in your possessions and transfer them to your home.

Anyone know what this lovely bug is? This is the ultimate household scavenger the Carpet Beetle. The larvae or grubs are small, reddish-brown and hairy. Larvae develop in dark, undisturbed locations and under normal conditions require about a year to complete their life cycle. Larvae are responsible for all of the feeding damage. Adults are tiny oval-shaped beetles that are often covered with scale-like seta (hairs).Carpet beetles are difficult to control because most times it is difficult to locate the origin of the infestation. The best way to combat carpet beetles in homes is to reduce their food sources and call Four Seasons Exterminating 800-942-0622!

You can treat bed bugs yourself by using bug bombs.

Not so. Bed bugs typically flee when the pesticide is released, heading for cover in the deepest, most inaccessible crevices of your home. A bug bomb will not reach these areas adequately to kill all the bed bugs in your home. In fact, a bug bomb is one of the least effective treatments you can use for any insect problem.

Heat vs Chemicals
Which should I choose for Bed Bugs?
Bed Bugs chemicals are not as effective and efficient as heat.
Chemicals approved by the FDA are not as strong as those that eradicated bed bugs from the U.S. years ago and bed bugs have become resistant to others. Chemicals do kill bed bugs if they are sprayed directly but not the ones hiding. Getting all living bugs in one treatment is difficult to impossible even for the best chemical treatment specialists. The chemicals also have no effect on eggs. Heat is able to permeate all hiding places, even within walls, to eliminate bed bugs. Hands down Heat wins the battle.

Bed Bugs Some FAQs

How do I know if I’ve been bitten by a bed bug?

It is hard to tell if you’ve been bitten by a bed bug unless you find bed bugs or signs of infestation. When bed bugs bite, they inject an anesthetic and an anticoagulant that prevents a person from realizing they are being bitten. Most people do not realize they have been bitten until bite marks appear anywhere from one to several days after the initial bite. The bite marks are similar to that of a mosquito or a flea -- a slightly swollen and red area that may itch and be irritating. The bite marks may be random or appear in a straight line. Other symptoms of bed bug bites include insomnia, anxiety, and skin problems that arise from profuse scratching of the bites.
Because bed bug bites affect everyone differently, some people may have no reaction and will not develop bite marks or any other visible signs of being bitten. Other people may be allergic to the bed bugs and can react adversely to the bites. These allergic symptoms can include enlarged bite marks, painful swellings at the bite site, and, on rare occasions, anaphylaxis.

How did I get bed bugs?
Bed bugs are experts at hiding. Their slim flat bodies allow them to fit into the smallest of spaces and stay there for long periods of time, even without a blood meal. Bed bugs are usually transported from place to place as people travel. The bed bugs travel in the seams and folds of luggage, overnight bags, folded clothes, bedding, furniture, and anywhere else where they can hide. Most people do not realize they are transporting stow-away bed bugs as they travel from location to location, infecting areas as they travel.

Do you know the difference between a house mouse and a deer mouse? The house mouse is a small rodent that is nearly hairless and has a slightly pointed black nose with slightly protruding eyes and large ears. They range in color from very light brown to black and normally have a gray belly or buff belly. The droppings are black and have a musty smell. Another common rodent invader is the deer mouse. The deer mouse is bi-colored, having white feet, usually a white belly and white undersides with a brownish upper back and head. Their tails are quite long, oftentimes the same length as the head and body combined. Their tails are very distinctively multi-colored and compared to the house mouse; the deer mouse has larger eyes and ears. The droppings of the deer mouse are black and smooth with pointed ends.
