This is a hand-knotted 100% wool Heriz-style rug that came into our facility for a full wash. From the outside, rugs like this can look “not that dirty,” but once we start flushing the fibers, you quickly realize how much dry soil, residue, and buildup is trapped deep within the foundation.

One of the biggest issues we see is damage from store-bought spot cleaners or DIY products. A lot of them are too harsh for natural fibers and can leave behind residue, discoloration, or even cause dye issues over time.

With wool rugs, we’re not just cleaning the surface we’re paying attention to the fibers, dyes, foundation, and overall stability of the textile before choosing the proper cleaning method.

Every rug gets inspected first, tested, and cleaned according to what that specific rug can safely handle. No one-size-fits-all process over here. 🧼

Let’s talk tufted rugs ..

To understand them we must understand their construction. The pile which can be either wool or polyester, or a blend with the notorious viscose is put together by latex and covering that latex with a cotton or polyester backing.

Now that we understand their construction we understand that the rug will only be as good as the latex. With usage, pets and life. The latex can start to delaminate, adding an immersion cleaning to that equation can ruin the rug completely.
