Block Bins

Block Bins Block Bins provides food scrap recycling services to Chicago residents. Neighbors can share the bins to reduce cost and clutter. Start composting today!

Visit our webiste to find a bin near you, or request a new one. Block Bins is the most convenient & affordable composting service, thanks to our community-powered system. Search Block Bins’ interactive map to join shared bins already in service in your neighborhood, or request to host a new bin for your block. You can drag the map to tell us the exact spot you want your Block Bin to be positioned

-- and then help spread the word in your building and on your block to get neighbors to join your request! Once a request for a new bin has been accepted, Block Bins delivers a 35-gallon bin to the location designated by the requestor and all subscribers to that bin receive the code to open the lock, which minimizes waste stream contamination and keeps rodents and other pests out.

You asked, we listened.
This Earth Day, we’re excited to host our first-ever BYOB (Bring Your Own Bucket) Compost Giveback—a free event to share finished compost with the people who made it possible: our community. 🌱

WHEN: Friday, April 26 | 9 AM – 3 PM
WHERE: Commercial Club Park
1845 W Rice St, Chicago, IL 60622
WHAT TO BRING: Any container to scoop and take home compost. 🪣

This is something we’ve been looking forward to doing for a long time. As a thank-you for being part of this community—from sorting your scraps to showing up week after week—we’re giving back some of the finished compost you helped create.

It’s free, it’s for you, and it’s a reflection of what we care about most: keeping food out of landfills, building a more sustainable city, and strengthening the community that makes all of it possible.

Subscribers, neighbors, friends—you’re all welcome. We’d love to see you there. 💚

This Earth Month, let’s grow something good—together. 🌎

We believe composting is one of the most powerful, everyday actions we can take for our planet. And during April, we’re making it even easier to get started and be part of something meaningful:

New to Block Bins?
Join any bin and get $10 off your first month with the code EARTHDAY at checkout — now through April 30th.

Already composting with us?
You’ll receive a $10 credit for every person you refer — and they’ll get $10 off, too! Just head to blockbins.com/refer to grab your referral link and start sharing. Your friends can join any bin in our network.

Whether you’re just getting started or have been composting with us for years, this is the perfect time to spread the word, invite others in, and keep the movement growing.

Because the more people composting, the bigger the impact — and the more good we can do, together.

Celebrate Earth Month with us.
Share the love. Spread the word. Grow the impact. 🌱
