With Fall weather now in full swing, in addition to scheduling a treatment with us, please follow these tips to further pest-proof your home, school, or business.

Seal Entry Points with Exclusion Tactics

Think of your home like a fortress, and your first line of defense is making sure there are no secret tunnels for pests to sneak in. The truth is, many critters only need a tiny crack — about the size of a pencil — to settle inside your walls for the winter.

Grab a flashlight and take a good look around your home’s exterior and keep an eye out for those sneaky little gaps and openings around:

Windows and doors
Foundation walls
Attic vents
Chimneys
Crawl spaces
Utility lines and pipe penetrations
Garage doors and even animal doors

This is the time to get out your caulk gun and door sweeps! Seal up small cracks with silicone caulk, replace worn-out door sweeps and cover bigger holes with wire mesh. And don’t overlook your window screens. One tiny tear can be an open invitation to flies, Asian lady beetles and other unwanted guests.

By locking down these entry points, you’re not just keeping out fall pests — you’re shutting the door on year-round intruders like carpenter ants and spiders, who love the warm spots inside your home as much as you do.

Pest problems rarely start with a bang. They creep in quietly. That one stink bug on your window might seem harmless today, but if you’re not watching closely, you could be dealing with a full-blown invasion before the season’s over.

The key? Stay vigilant and act fast.

Here’s how to keep tabs on what’s happening behind the scenes:

* Keep an eye out for early red flags like gnawed materials, odd smells or bug clusters.
* Place glue boards or sticky traps in low-traffic zones like garages, basements or under sinks.
* Peek into kitchen cupboards and pantries for signs of insects or webbing.
* Check behind furniture and appliances for signs of nesting or pest trails.

If you happen to spot something, don’t wait. Even minor activity can snowball into a major pest problem if left untreated. And remember, DIY bug spray may not be enough if you’re seeing signs across multiple rooms. Call Patty to schedule your treatment at (636) 532-4175.

Your yard is your home’s first line of defense and let’s be honest, pests love a messy yard almost as much as kids love jumping in leaf piles.

During fall, all those untouched spots like leaf piles, fallen branches and stacked firewood become prime real estate for pests looking for warmth and shelter. To keep your home off their radar, make sure to:

* Rake, mulch and/or haul away those fallen leaves regularly.
* Store firewood at least 20 feet away from your house (because pests love woodpiles close to home).
* Trim back bushes and tree limbs that brush up against your siding to eliminate those leafy bridges.
* Clean up garden debris and tame overgrown plants.
* Use airtight containers for trash and compost.

Moisture is like a magnet for pests such as cockroaches, earwigs and centipedes. Keep an eye out for standing water around downspouts, clogged gutters or any soggy spots in your yard.

A neat and dry yard doesn’t just boost curb appeal; it’s your best bet for stopping infestations before they even get started.

With the cool, crisp Fall days right around the corner, don't be surprised if you spot a Wolf Spider hiding under that log pile in your backyard. These are generally not a threat to us humans and should be left alone to continue doing some natural pest control out in your yard.

Why is sanitation inside the home so important? Once a roach infestation begins, it can snowball into something spectacular in a relatively short period of time. Food wrappers, leaving out partially-eaten food or crumbs, etc. is a recipe for something like this. It can get so bad, eradication may become impossible no matter how experienced the pest professional you hire. Make 2025 the year you take stringent measures to sanitize your home and hire us for regular pest control! Call today for an appointment, 636-532-4175.
