Drowning is fast, silent, and often preventable. In recognition of World Drowning Prevention Day, Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority encourages our community to take a moment to learn how we can all help keep each other safe around water.
Whether it's rivers, lakes, pools, or bathtubs β drowning can happen in seconds. Children and young people are especially at risk.
Safety tips to remember:
β’ Always supervise children near water β even if they can swim
β’ Wear life jackets when boating or near deep or moving water
β’ Learn CPR and basic water rescue skills
β’ Avoid alcohol when swimming or supervising swimmers
β’ Respect currents and weather conditions in natural waters
Water is sacred in Cherokee culture β a source of healing, life, and connection. Letβs honor that by keeping each other safe.
