Chelsea called us first thing on a leaking morning. Our crew was out that same day to tarp the roof to stop further water coming in, and Antonio was back the next day to check for damage and walk her through what came next.

Some roofs are more than a replacement—they’re a true construction project.

For this home, our in-house crew is installing hand-laid red cedar shakes over a ventilated cedar breather system, along with custom copper flashing formed and soldered around each skylight. Every detail is designed to protect the home while allowing the cedar and copper to age beautifully over time.

Cedar, copper, slate, and specialty skylight work require a level of experience that is becoming increasingly difficult to find. Novalis Roofing & Siding has been building and restoring these types of roofing systems since 1940.

A Short Hills estate deserves a roof that matches its architecture — and this one was fully re-crowned in designer slate style.

For this project, the Novalis Roofing & Siding team replaced the roof down to the deck and installed CertainTeed Grand Manor, a luxury asphalt shingle designed to capture the dimensional look of natural slate without the weight of stone.

With eleven roof planes, five chimneys, dormers, valleys, hips, ridges, and a wraparound porch, every detail mattered. Every transition, every flashing point, and every cap had to be handled with precision.

The result is a timeless, high-end finish built for curb appeal, durability, and long-term performance.

The original cedar roof had begun to split, curl and require repeated repairs. Our team replaced it with Brava composite shake, delivering the authentic texture and appearance of cedar with improved durability and much less upkeep.

Hand-set copper snow guards and copper details completed the roof and added a timeless finishing touch.
