Wash Wednesday Tip: Pull Halloween costumes out this week, not on the afternoon of October 31.

First, there is the smell. Costumes stored in a humid garage or attic pick up a distinct musty odor that washes out easily, if you start ahead of time.

Second, there is the prep. Storage conceals popped seams, missing snaps, and old stains. Discovering those a week early is an easy fix; discovering them at 5:00 PM on Halloween is a nightmare.

Most costumes wash safely on a cold, gentle cycle inside a mesh bag to protect delicate trim and seams. Always hang them to dry, as heat warps foam, melts glue, and shrinks cheap polyester.

Living near the coast has its advantages, but high humidity is tough on damp fabric.

When laundry is pulled from the dryer, thick seams, waistbands, and folded towels often retain hidden moisture. In humid air, that trapped moisture cannot evaporate in the closet, leading to mildew and a basement smell just days later.

Preventing it takes two steps: do not overload the washer, and dry thoroughly with real heat. Our commercial dryers are built to dry completely all the way through.

Washing requires detergent to lift dirt and enough water to flush it away. In an overloaded home washer, there is not enough water to rinse everything out, so lifted soil settles back into the fibers. Weak dryers then leave thick areas damp, creating the perfect environment for odors to trap, especially in high humidity.

Nobody likes thinking about it, but your sheets collect dead skin, sweat, and body oils every night. This creates a breeding ground for dust mites and bacteria, especially in humid air. By day seven, dirty bedding can cause morning congestion, breakouts, or faint odors.

The fix is simple: wash sheets and pillowcases weekly in the warmest safe water and dry them completely.

Anyone who has lived on this coast for a season knows the drill. The forecast turns, and suddenly everybody is doing the same errands at the same time.

Laundry is worth doing early, and not for dramatic reasons. If the power goes out you cannot run a washer or a dryer, and wet laundry sitting in a machine for two warm days is ruined in a way that is genuinely hard to reverse. Clean, dry clothes, towels and bedding in the closet is simply one less thing on the list.

So when the week looks unsettled, run the load then rather than after. Get everything fully dry and put away. Do not leave a finished load sitting in the washer overnight.

If you do end up with laundry that sat wet too long, bring it in. A hot wash with proper water volume and a full dry will save most of it, and that is not something a home machine does well.

Cuatro cargas en casa son una sola carga en WaveMAX.

Una lavadora de casa aguanta una fracción de lo que aguantan nuestras máquinas. Por eso lavar en casa se convierte en un proyecto de todo el fin de semana. Aquí la ropa de la escuela, las toallas, las sábanas y la ropa deportiva se lavan al mismo tiempo.

No es solo el tamaño. Nuestras máquinas usan más agua por libra, así el detergente tiene espacio para trabajar y la ropa se enjuaga por completo, sin dejar residuo. Con la humedad de esta zona, el residuo es exactamente lo que se convierte en olor unos días después.

If you live anywhere along this coast you already know the feeling. Laundry comes out of the dryer, it seems fine, you fold it, and two days later the drawer smells faintly like a basement.
Home dryers only measure surface dryness, leaving thick seams, waistbands, and towel hems secretly damp. While dry air allows that hidden moisture to evaporate in the closet, humid air traps it, creating the perfect environment for mildew to grow.

It is why the same load can be fine in Denver and smell in Charleston.

Two things fix it. Do not overload, because a packed drum leaves damp pockets no amount of time will reach. And finish at real heat all the way through. Our dryers are built to do exactly that, which is why laundry from here stays fresh in the drawer instead of turning on you by Thursday.

Bring in whatever has already gone that way. A proper hot wash and a full dry will usually bring it back.

Funny Friday: We all know the move. Pick it up off the chair, hold it at arm's length, take one cautious sniff, and make a decision you regret by eleven in the morning.

Here is the thing though. If clothes come out of the machine and still smell faintly like the hamper, that is not you being dramatic. That is the machine.

An overloaded home washer cannot move enough water through a full load. Detergent lifts the soil, then has nowhere to carry it, so it settles right back into the fabric. Add a dryer that finishes things slightly damp, in a climate that is already humid, and you have built a small ecosystem in the laundry basket.

Our commercial machines use more water per pound and rinse completely, and our dryers finish at a real temperature. Clean should smell like nothing at all.

Bring the whole pile in and stop gambling on the hoodie.

Wash Wednesday tip: School clothes do not get dingy in one wash. They get there slowly, a little every load, until one morning the shirt no longer looks like the new one hanging next to it.

Three habits stop it. Sort by color every single time, not just when the pile looks obvious. One dark sock hiding inside a sleeve leaves a permanent cast across a whole light load.

Give the load room to move. Fabric only comes clean when water can carry the soil away from it, and a packed drum has nowhere for that soil to go. It just redistributes across everything in the machine.

Then dry it completely. This is the one that bites people on this coast. A shirt that feels dry on the surface can still be holding moisture in the collar seam, and two days in a closet is all it takes for that to turn into a smell no normal wash will lift.
