🚨 DETAILING IS BECOMING ILLEGAL IN CHARLOTTE? 🚨

Starting May 15th, everything changes for car owners in the 704. We called last week, and they said this is about more than just the water shortage, but it’s about protecting our city’s infrastructure from concentrated runoff during the drought.

At Supreme Nomads, we’ve been prepping for this. We’ve measured the math: our professional details already use less water than your average morning shower (10-12 gallons per vehicle vs 17.2 gallons). Now, we’re officially evolving with our new Zero-Runoff Rinseless Technology to keep your paint protected without a single drop hitting the storm drains. 🧼

We aren’t just following the rules; we’re setting a new standard for professional car care in North Carolina.

🪟 Streaky windows almost always come down to one of three things: the wrong product, the wrong towel, or the wrong technique. Most consumer glass cleaners contain ammonia, which can leave a residue and actually damages window tint over time. Even ammonia-free consumer products often leave a thin film on glass that creates haze.

The technique matters just as much. Wiping in circular motions leaves behind streaky patterns. ❌ The correct method is straight overlapping passes in one direction, then a second pass perpendicular with a clean dry towel. The first towel cleans, the second buffs. Each towel should be dedicated to glass only, and never used on paint or interior surfaces first.

We also clean the top edge of the glass with the window rolled down slightly. 👇 That edge collects a film of dirt and oil that transfers onto the glass every time you roll the window. It’s why windows that look clean from outside look dirty from the inside.

🧱 Clay bars are a synthetic detailing clay that physically pulls embedded contaminants out of your paint that washing alone can never remove. We’re talking iron particles from brake dust, industrial fallout, rail dust, tree sap residue, and overspray. These particles bond to and embed into your clear coat over time, and no amount of soap will dislodge them.

Here’s an easy way to check if your car needs it: after a thorough wash, run a clean fingertip across your paint. 👆 If it feels rough or gritty like sandpaper, your paint is contaminated. Most cars that haven’t been clayed in over a year will feel rough.

Clay bar is a non-negotiable step before any paint correction or ceramic coating. If you skip it and apply a coating over embedded contamination, you’re locking all of that in. 🔒 We clay every vehicle on every exterior detail as a standard part of the process — not an upsell.

This $90,000 BMW X5 was ruined before it even hit 20 miles on the dash. 🤦‍♂️

The owner gave the dealership one simple rule: Do. Not. Wash. It. They didn’t listen. They ran it through an automatic tunnel wash, and those spinning brushes absolutely demolished this Carbon Black finish.

Here’s the hard lesson: I originally told the customer he didn’t need a correction because the damage was hidden in the broad sunlight. I was wrong. Once I got it into the shop under the Scangrip lights, the truth was revealed.

I had to own my mistake, call the client, and do the extra days of labor to get this paint back to where it belongs. I stood by my word and only charged a small fraction of what it was worth.

Moral of the story? 1️⃣ To the owners: A ‘free’ dealership wash is the most expensive mistake you’ll make for your paint. 2️⃣ To the detailers: Never give a quote until you’ve seen the paint under professional lighting. Sunlight hides the truth; the Scangrips tell it all.
