Good afternoon friends and family. Pretty big news over here at LCPS today. We can't believe it, but we just hit the 10 year mark of being in business! Time has flown by and we can't believe it has been a decade already. We wanted to take a moment and reflect on all the blessings that have been given to us and how much we appreciate each and everyone one of you that have supported us through the years! We don't take it lightly, especially in the world we live today. At the rate that businesses open and close, we are incredibly thankful that we have been able to weather the storms. So, cheers to the past ten years and excitement for decades to come. As always, we appreciate each and everyone one of you and we will see you out there!

Very Respectfully,

Derik and Joe!

Be Insect-Prepared for Spring!

As we head into the new year, many homeowners will resolve to get back on track with home maintenance duties. If it has been a while since you have thought about the spring insect frenzy that is on the horizon, don’t procrastinate! These are steps you can take to make sure that your home is pest-ready for the spring from our Charleston pest control experts!

Move Food Canisters

As the cold weather rages on, many homeowners want to have their trash bins close by, but that isn’t a great idea when you have pests and rodents to contend with. An open trash receptacle is nothing short of a beacon for rodents to find refuge to make it through the cold winter and warm spring mating season. If you are going to keep canisters close to the house, make sure that they have an air-tight sealed container to keep pests and insects out year-round.

Empty Water Canisters

The holiday season has a way of distracting us from things that we should do, like home maintenance. If it has been a while since you have surveyed your yard for pooling water and filled containers, now is an excellent time to address them. When the warm weather rushes in, pooling water and moisture create the best breeding grounds for pests and make it likely that you will have a problem on your hands come early spring!

Clean Out Gutters

One of the most commonly forgotten parts of home maintenance and pest control are caked and dirty gutters. Not only are poorly maintained gutters a real problem for foundation and erosion; they are also an eyesore and can predispose your home to have a real insect or rodent infestation problem. And if you allow dirt and debris to build up, there is a good chance that you will need to call and have your gutters repaired – or worse, replaced. If you do one thing before the spring showers begin, make it cleaning out your gutters for water and pest issues throughout the year!

Hire a Pest Control Company for Regular Maintenance

The best way to stop a rodent or insect problem is to make sure that it isn’t a problem to begin with! Scheduling regular maintenance is the best way to ensure that you are targeting pests throughout the year according to when they are most active. Hiring Lowcountry Pest Specialists is just one way to eliminate the potential of having to deal with an infestation come spring – or any other time.

As we head into the new year, now is an excellent time to consider pest control and how to stop a problem on the horizon. At Lowcountry Pest Specialists, we provide a superior service that seeks to both target bugs when they are at their worst and to stop any potential problems before they arise. Contact us today to schedule your regular maintenance and be ready before spring with help from our pest control in Charleston, SC experts. Schedule your appointment today!

Pest Control Charleston SC – Explore the Best Mulch to Keep Bugs Away

Although the beautiful state of South Carolina is the best place to live on earth, it does come with some downsides. Due to the hot and moist weather, it tends to be a little more buggy than other states. The best way to keep pests at bay outdoors might be the most natural. There are specific mulches that help to keep bugs under control. If you’re looking for tips for the best pest control in Charleston, SC to reduce your outdoor pest problem organically, look no further!

Organic Mulches
There are two different types of mulches: organic and inorganic. Organic mulches are made from the byproducts of natural things like bark, leaves, grasses, and straw. Inorganic ones are man-made materials like rubber or plastic. Organic mulch is the best choice to control your outdoor pest population. It helps change the chemistry of the soil to help reduce fungi, insects, and bacteria. This means it helps to reduce your bug problem in a variety of ways.

Cypress and Cedar
Using chip or bark mulches are a great way to repel insects. Both contain natural chemicals and oils, like thujone, that help to keep bugs away. To both kill and repel cockroaches, termites, carpet beetles, and cloth-eating moths, use cedar chips. If you spread cypress and cedar around the trees in your backyard, they can eliminate decay, and they also last longer than other types of mulches, so they’re more economical. Cedar tends to lose its color more quickly, so if you are going to choose one over the other for aesthetics and long-lasting appeal, then cypress is a better choice.

Plastic Mulches
Mulches made from polyethylene, which is an inorganic type of mulch, can also help to control bugs. Aluminum-coated plastic sheets made into mulch help to reflect the sunlight, and this means it can help to confuse some insects and keep them away from their intended target. But they also tend to leave the ground open in places where bugs can get underneath and into the moisture of the soil below.

Cocoa Bean Shells and Straw
Straw mulches are an excellent way to reduce the population of bugs around your outdoor areas, and they also help to deter the cucumber beetle from eating vegetation like cucumbers if you are trying to grow a garden. Chocolate beans help to repel bugs, and they also have a wonderful rich color that can enhance your outdoor aesthetics.

The best Charleston, SC pest control methods to get rid of bugs might be found in inorganic mulch.
It is safer for the environment, inexpensive, and it actually works. Organic control pest methods are always a great alternative, especially when you have children playing outdoors. If you can’t seem to get your pest problem under control, contact Low Country Pest Specialists today. We have all the proven tools to make your outdoor and indoor spaces pest-free! Soon Critters Will Be Seeking Refuge From the Cold – Are You Giving Them an In?
Pest Control Services in Charleston SC

As the fall takes hold and the cooler temperatures flood the area, many pests and critters will soon be looking for refuge. As the seasons change, there is always an increase in pest and rodent populations looking to weather the storm. The best way to keep your home pest- and rodent-free is by being proactive. When it comes to pest control in Charleston, SC, prevention is always way less expensive than cleaning up after an infestation. Here are some helpful tips to keep your home pest- and rodent-free for the fall and beyond!

Seal Crevices and Cracks

If you have an older home – and in some cases, even a newer one – even the smallest cracks and crevices can be an entry point for pests and rodents. It takes very little room for them to make their way indoors. Use either steel wool or caulk to seal crevices and cracks on the exterior of your home; that way, you will cut them off before they can make their way in!

Keep Things off the Counter

It isn’t just about keeping rodents and pests out; don’t invite them in to begin with. Left-out food is basically a beacon calling them in for some nourishment. If you have food in a pantry, make sure to use airtight sealed containers so that bugs can’t make their way in. Also, make sure that pet food is covered tightly. Insects and rodents don’t make the distinction between pet food and human food.

Close Garbage Can Lids

Most people store their garbage outside, but generally close to the house for convenience. All that garbage sitting and composting smells like heaven to rodents and insects. Make sure that you move the garbage cans away from your home and use lids to keep everything out. Otherwise, pests will find a way to forage and feast!

Moisture Control is a Must

Although moisture and humidity might not be as high during the winter, they can still be a concern. Use a dehumidifier in the house to draw out moisture. Pests love dark and damp spaces like attics, crawl spaces, and basements. If they get in, they won’t just stop there – so it is important to keep them completely out!

Firewood is a Great Haven for Pests – Kill the Trojan Horse

Campfires and fireplaces are a great way to warm up and enjoy the cold weather. But wood is also a great Trojan horse for insects to make their way indoors. Make sure that you store your firewood at least 20 feet from your home and up off the ground. Mice, termites, and ants all love nothing more than to burrow in for the season and enjoy the indoors once let in!

As we head into fall, rodents and other critters will become more active in looking for a place to find shelter. Make sure that you bar them from gaining entry into your home by following these quick and easy steps. Above all, make sure to hire Lowcountry Pest Specialists for routine pest control in Charleston. We are the experts who do it all and keep your home pest-free all throughout the year! Schedule your appointment today!
