Unfortunate that the air show over Charleston Harbor was cancelled due to weather, but it was super cool to see them practice for the past couple days between dives! Dare I say, they were “On Point”.

The season is ramping up! We’re on a roll this week. 2 successful search and recoveries, 1 prop swap, a bunch of hulls cleaned, and 1 road trip to Savannah, GA to get another American Cruise Lines 241’ long, 54’ beam, with a 7’ draft “American Liberty” safely underway again. And it’s just Tuesday! The team is working hard and we’re here when you need us especially when the task requires reliable attention to detail.

Monday turned into a 24hr work day after receiving an urgent late call from American Cruise Lines 226’ vessel, “American Independence”. Their starboard engine cut out while underway to Baltimore to pick up passengers. After getting it running again they tried putting it in gear and it cut out again. After over 6 hours of diving throughout the night, was able to cut away over 30’ of over 2” thick mooring line that was wrapped around their prop and running gear. Normally, not a huge problem to solve… this was on another level. Was a pleasure working with the crew who ended up having to loosen the shaft and back it up an inch which was just enough space for me to remove the last bit of line that had everything bound up. Out of the water by 4:30am Tuesday. Job complete and they’re getting back underway at first light.

One hopes that when a yard splashes your vessel back in the water that things are right and ready for the season. Unfortunately that’s not always the case.

At On Point Diving, I like to inspect each customer’s vessel after it gets put back in the water and has had time to marinate with the elements for a couple weeks before hull cleanings resume. This video shows why. Prop Speed clearly applied improperly on one drive and aluminum transom anodes aging this quickly within just a couple weeks is a likely sign of hot electrical currents within the vessel.

Communicating this type of information with my customers is a priority. As my customers know… I have things set up so you know your vessel is being cared for and a hands off easy experience for you. On the occasion I do call… It’s likely because I’ve noted something that you should be aware of so you have the information to make the decision on how you’d like to move forward.
