I pay for my village.

Yup.

A privilege. A necessity. A way to keep my sanity.

We hear all the time about how it “takes a village”- hate to break it to you babe- but we are in the throws of late stage capitalism and the “village” is not what what it used to be.

Being a stay at home mom nowadays is somehow both a privilege and a necessity- quite frankly for me- if I went to work now and made minimum wage- we would not be able to afford childcare.

I don’t have retired parents who can come over weeknights and help with the kids or bring me dinner.

All of my family lives 30-60 minutes away or further.

And so, as a stay at home mom- I have a cleaning woman.

A sweet angel who comes to my house twice a months and cleans my floors and surfaces. Twice a month I come home and admire my clean floors and counters (a sight that lasts all but a few minutes after my children enter behind me)

It allows my husband and I to have any time together at all. He works long hours, and so we can hang out for an hour a night, we hire help with the cleaning. 🧹 🧼

We all pay for our village in all sorts of ways- lawn care, child care, babysitters, meal services, grocery delivery, door dash, house cleaners

The list goes on

And yes, all of that is possible with financial privilege- and if it all feels I possible without extra help- there’s a reason.

It’s is harder.
That’s why it feels that way.

It’s not you.

Stay safe in this weather, everyone! ❄️

PLEASE take this storm seriously. Deputies are reporting that road conditions deteriorated quickly.
Ten miles of Interstate 85 are closed from exit 169 up near the Durham County line (the Pleasant Green Road and Scottish Inn area) stretching back beyond the Hillsborough Wal-Mart which is exit 165.
We are also aware of a 15 car pile-up near I-40 exit 261, which is near the UNC Hillsborough Hospital and the Durham Tech Orange County campus.
