There aren’t many cars like this in Iowa. We detail almost all of them.

That happens for one reason: the risk on these cars isn’t dirt, it’s damage.

One dirty towel, or one acidic wheel cleaner on carbon ceramics, and you’re looking at swirls and etching that cost thousands to correct. Owners here know there’s no room for guessing.

So we built the process around prevention. Wheels first with rim-safe chemicals. Decon and foam. Hand wash with fresh microfiber every panel. Dried on non-dragging towels. Never touch dry paint. Finished with System X ceramic. Without our special system it’s close to impossible to match our quality and safety.

We treat every car like it’s a GT3. Some of them are.

We stopped selling wax and nobody has missed it.

Wax sits on top of your paint and it’s basically gone in a month or two. Iowa heat, salt, and rain chew right through it. System X Renew is a true SiO2 ceramic that bonds to the clear coat instead, and System X rates it at 9 or more months of protection.

Deeper gloss, slicker feel, water flies off, dirt doesn’t stick the same way. Works on paint, wheels, glass, and trim.

Add it to any detail. Just ask.

Your windshield takes up most of what you look at when you drive. Weird that it’s the last thing people think about protecting.

Coated glass sheets water off once you’re moving, so your wipers barely have to work. Bugs come off in one pass instead of scrubbing at a gas station with a foam brush. Water spots stop baking in, so you’re cleaning your windows way less often.

And no, it’s not the same coating we put on paint. Glass is a completely different surface and needs its own chemistry to bond right.

We use System X glass coating because it actually holds up through Iowa winters and repeat washes instead of rinsing off after a few storms like the stuff off the shelf.

What a clay bar actually does (and what it doesn't)

Clay bars seem like they do magic on your paint. But they don't. Here is the real deal.

Myth vs reality…

Clay does not remove scratches or swirls. If you can see them, clay will not remove them.

Clay is not something that needs to be done every wash of your car. Most vehicles need clay bars once or twice a year, preferably before any wax or protective coatings.

Clay is not just extra cleaning. If you use car shampoo to clean your car’s paint, you will remove the particles sitting on the paint. Clay removes the particles that are stuck in the paint.

What it really does

Place your car’s paint under your hand in a plastic bag. The grit that you feel is the bonded contamination from the outside world. Clay will shear that off the paint so that your paint can be smooth again.

Why you clay before you polish

Clay shears the particles out of the paint, but it may leave behind some haze and minor mar to the paint. Clay bars can be aggressive. The best practice is to clay your car, then polish it to even out any mar to the paint, then finally, protect it with a coating.

Doing it right

Clay your car after it has been thoroughly washed and dried. Do a chemical decon to loosen the contamination before claying. Do small sections using a lot of lubricant. Fold the clay bar regularly so that the fresh face of the clay does the work. If the clay bar hits the ground, it is in the trash. Once you have finished claying, go ahead and polish and protect the car.

Clay bar vs clay towel

Both clay bars and clay towels do the same job. Clay bars conform to the paint panel. The clay will absorb the contamination. The advantage is that it is safer to use on soft paints like black Hondas, Teslas, and Japanese cars. Clay towels are polymer rubber with a microfiber backing that covers the whole car. It is faster and lasts longer. However, if the contamination hits the clay towel, it will mar the paint. For softer paint like a clear, clay towels will mar the paint very quickly if you are not careful about the lubricant.

From sandpaper to glass.

This early 2000s Pontiac Solstice paint was taken care of very well, but overtime without a ceramic coating paints becomes gritty, oxidized, and flat. Red paint gets hit hardest by the sun, and it showed.

Full one stage paint correction with premium compounds and pads, sealed with System X ceramic. Now it looks better than it did on the lot.

Your paint might look fine. Corrected and coated, it looks unreal. Book with R&W and see how good your vehicle can really look.
